He is considered a great person! Not only by the Greeks but also from other nations!
Let me explain!
Alexander, {Greek “ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΣ” (ALEXANDROS)} is considered the greatest hero of Greece.
He made his small Greek kingdom of Macedon the most powerful Greek state.
He was the first who managed to unite all the Greek states in one common league and lead them to build a gigantic Greek Empire which expanded from Greece to India (really big!!). He was so successful that the Greek states that followed his empire controlled the know world for 300 years!
He was the first person who took the title “Emperor of the Greeks” and after him no one ever manage to take the same title.
He never lost a battle and he is considered a military genius especially because he defeated armies many times larger than his!
He spread Greek language and Greek culture through out the world paving the way to Christianity since Greek became the international language of the time!
He was considered from the people of the Persian Empire as a liberator and not a conqueror. Even the Egyptians named him Pharaoh and God.
But above all he did not force the other nations to accept Greek culture but instead he fused Greek with Asian Elements forming the culture that was called Hellenistic (from “Hellenic” meaning “Greek”).
{Do not confuse the ancient Greek kingdom of Macedonia or Macedon with the modern state of Makedonija (or FYROM or Slav Macedonia as they are not related at all). The confusion has started a few years ago because that small state started to use the name “Republic of Macedonia” causing a great confusion with real Macedonia in Greece.}

Alexander was not a man of our times. Our moral values didn't exist back then. Some of the things he has done would have been unacceptable today.

However that doesn't mean that he wasn't one of the greatest generals of all times, a great reformer and a dreamer.
