Why are people more and more getting more food allergies? It seems like everyone's allergic to everything anymore. When I was growing up, nobody was allergic to anything but maybe pollen. How come people are suddenly coming up with reactions to shellfish, strawberries, peanuts, etc...? 30+ years ago, everybody ate everything! What changed?

This is a serious question.

that's a good question and one i'd love to get serious answers too... last week i developed an allergic reaction to something i ate (think it's shell fish) and i'm still itchy and scratchy 10 days later. the doctor tells me that some ppl develop different allergies and takes longer than others to get better. right now i'm suffering and i sincerely hope that it's not going to be a permanent allergy to shell fish because i love shrimp and lobster! i was never allergic to anything else but penicillin so to now develop allergies really suck! :(

Pediatricians say not to feed babies solids before 6 months..to help prevent development of food allergies. I have a younger sibling with a 1 year old who has been eating whatever she could get hour mouth on since 3 months. Time will tell.

I attribute it to a few different things:
1. They are better diagnosed now
2. It is reported better so we hear about it more
3. Generally with food the more a person is exposed to it the worse the allergy gets so it can end up deadly, that makes the internet news which refers back to #2

Because of all of the artificial crap that is sprayed on foods. There is veyr few things that are truley natural these days. The more we spray, the more you will find that allergies will pop up. So, it is not necessarily the food they are allergic too.
