Intimidation.........I had a similar experience. I saw a police car parked in the middle of the road.....knowing this officer (I was a waitress in a local diner) I stopped.waiting for her to finish her business....I sat for about 15 minutes and she was still sitting in her car..no lights were on..and talking to two teenage boys. The boys kept looking at me then would go back to talking to the officer. Finally the boys stepped back and motioned for me to go around the police car. I was skeptical, since I would have to drive through a yard, but I did it anyway. As I went by, I shook my head in disbelief because the obvious thing for the officer to do was move her car out of the middle of the road, especially if she was just talking. I went up to a stop sign, turned on my signal and turned. I then noticed her behind me with her lights on. I stopped and waited for her to walk up to my car. Then, I got the shock of my life....she actually said to me "did you shake your head at me?"......she pulled me over with her lights on because I shook my head at her lack of incompatence and obviously trying to intimidate me. I said"yes..I did"....her reply was then..."I'm doing police work"..and walked away..got in her car and drove off.

They will sometimes follow you for a distance because they have to call in your license plate number to report the officer stopping you. Something similar happened to me. I came to a stop sign, and up the road there was a police car. I still don't know how he could have seen wheather I stopped or not, but I was pulled over for not coming to a complete stop. A lot of areas will make excuses to pull someone over, ask if they know why they were pulled over, then ask if they have been drinking. They do this during holiday weekends in a lot of areas to make sure people are not drinking and driving.

Maybe he saw you weave once and was following you to see if you displayed other signs of intoxication. When you didn't he may have stopped you to see if he could smell alcohol. Smelling none, he let you go. Maybe your car matched the description of another that was wanted and as soon as he saw who was driving he realized it was not the wanted person. Or maybe the area was known for drug sales and he was checking to see if you might have been involved in narcotic activity. Or just maybe your light was defective and that was the real reason he stopped you. Light bulbs can be finicky. One minute they are out then you hit a bump and they work again. You'll probably never know. You didn't get a ticket and the intrusion sounds like it was minimal. I wouldn't worry about it.

When I was a police officer, I had to pull up behind someone and call their tag in. It was run to see if it was valid or the driver had any warrants. That is what he was probably doing. It could take several minutes for this. If he gave you a ticket, I would fight it. Make sure you get your mechanic's report regarding the blinker. You can complain to his supervisor as well.

i've got had a minimum of one individual come to the station and "accuse" me of following them. I had no thought what they have been speaking approximately. i think of that I only passed off to be getting in the appropriate course they have been and that they have got been somewhat paranoid approximately it. I believe different solutions, why might you circulate by a yellow with a cruiser in the back of you? you ought to be performing very worried and agitated for the officer to single you out like that. many human beings have our "spidey senses" activated by making use of drivers that make a factor of consistently looking of their rear view mirrors and performing nervously. Why are they so worried? Are they suspended drivers? Is the vehicle stolen? the 2d officer would have stopped and waited till he gained your vehicle practise and your licence status from the dispatcher. as quickly as each and every thing regarded ok, he left.

Any one of a number of reasons you may not really have wanted to know about. And as far as that mechanic saying nothing is wrong. He may be right. There was nothing wrong when he checked it. That doesn't mean the policeman was wrong. At the time he saw it there may have been an intermittent problem the mechanic didn't find.

Sounds like he was looking for drunk drivers. They pull people over for all sorts of legitimate but minor things at night, i.e. license plate light out. He made contact with you, deciding you weren't drinking, gave you a warning and went about his way. They're just doing there job trying to keep the streets safe.

Sometimes they use little tricks to take a better look at what you have in your car.
I was once stopped by a cop to give me a ticket because I had my boy's Spongebob Squarepants keyholder hanging from the rear view mirror.
He later explained to me that they had been monitoring the area for drug activity, and traffickers sometimes use things like that as an indicator of activity.
And other times they're just bored and need to fill their quota. Just take your ticket and dispute it...

You might want to have a chat with the Chief or even someone from Internal Affairs on this one. Write out what happened, sign and date it, and give them a copy. Always, always, always, get the cop's badge number. It's in plain sight. Write it down ASAP. And don't ever accept a verbal warning. Make 'em write it out on a ticket. It is highly illegal for a cop to pull over someone for a BS reason. They can be reprimanded if their superiors find this out. But first, YOU have to file a complaint. I'm betting that this cop was just out cruising and pulling over women driving alone, hoping he will get a little mouth-party, if I may be blunt. This is far more common than you think.

They always do that crap. It is how they nail drunk drivers. They look for a reason to pull you over.
