Then you either go through your own insurance company, and let THEM worry about it, or you sue the other person in court, and get a judgement against them.

Could be that they actually don't have insurance. Hopefully a police report was taken with the motorists information. You may want to inform the officer that took the report. He might possibly have another insurance company listed or different policy #. If not, you could always fight in small claims court for the damage done ... but that would probably cost you more in the long run.
You may have uninsured motorist on your policy that covers such things.
Good luck to you

Have it added to the police report. A woman that rear ended my boyfriend gave the police officer and my boyfriend false insurance information. The police officer was, luckily, later able to track down the woman's husband's insurance information since it was the husband's van.

Hope for the best yet expect the worse. Seems like you've been taken because the othe person is uninsured are gave you an incorrect policy number. Hopefully the name and address is correct. At least then you could track the person down.

Notify the local law inforcement of this to add to their report and talk to your insurance company. If you don't have one, get a lawyer.
