If you're absent the day of an announced quiz or test you can't make it up, it goes in as a zero, and if you miss a pop quiz you have to write a 1 1/2 page paper to make up for it.

So what is the problem?? This is a teacher that wants your butts in the seats LEARNING something. You should be thankful that the teacher gives a D.A.M.N. enough to bother being strict.....

Your teacher doesn't want to risk information sharing (aka cheating) and doesn't want to go to the trouble to make up a new quiz or test just for you.

I think a 1 1 /2 page paper is a fair trade for a pop quiz.

Now, if he/she is giving you a zero on a MAJOR grade test and is not giving you the opportunity to make it up when your absence is EXCUSED (particularly for illness), then I think you and your fellow classmates need to take it up with the department chair or your principal. That part definitely doesn't sound fair.

First, ask your principal for an official school policy on making up tests in the event of excused absence. I'll bet your school has one. Also, did you get a written policy on tests from your teacher at the beginning of the school year?

Once you have reviewed the policies, ask for a meeting with the principal or department head and take in a representative group of students - shining stars along with scraping bys. Approach it from "we just want to make sure we heard right because this doesn't mesh with school policy." Your teacher may be new to the district or simply may be trying to deal with high absenteeism in his or her own personal way.

Good luck - this sounds very harsh!

That sounds reasonable to me. If you know there is going to be a quiz or test you should be there. The policy prevents people from faking an illness to get extra time to study.

We all have, had one :-) teachers, boss, partner, friend.....it's the nature of people that we all have to learn and deal with them, I had been very good student, there are some time I had to deal with a very jealousy moody teacher.....you have to bear in mind that 'teachers are person like us' she/he might have her own problems to deal with....and it may some time effect the way she teaching.....you have to learn how to deal with her/him....
*When I was in the university, one proffessor made mistake on my report and he gave me the wrong grade and it made me missed honour degree...I was going to fight but he asked me not to otherwise he would lose his carreer.
It's good that we have these teachers....because that is the 'REAL' test to practice before you actually living in the real world on your own. :-)
