On average they are bathed every 6 weeks, but if you dog is smelly was him.... some give baths as often as once a week... just use a conditioner on your pooch if you wash more frequently

As long as you use a mild quality shampoo and conditioner, and rinse rinse rinse, you will not dry out your dogs skin. That is an old wives tale that so many people (and even some vets) still believe now a days.

Years ago, dog shampoos were detergent based and yes, if you bathed your dog once a week or more, it would cause problems. It would be like washing your dog with Tide. Dog shampoos have come a LONG way in the last 20, even 10 years, and you can safely bathe your dog as often as needed.
I bathe my own dogs weekly, sometimes twice a week...no problems.

In the past, the generally accepted advice was that frequent bathing of your pet would damage the coat. If you use the proper shampoo, you can bathe your pet more than once a week and not damage the coat.

The first decision to make is where the bath will take place. Kitchen sinks or laundry utility tubs work well for small pets, while bathroom tubs or portable pet tubs are best for larger pets. Outside hoses, while convenient, are not a very good alternative since the water is so cold. Water should be lukewarm for the shampoo to work best and for your dog's comfort.

Apply an ophthalmic ointment to protect the eyes, and insert a cotton ball in the ears to prevent water from entering the canals. There are many shampoos to choose from depending on your pet's hair coat, skin condition, or desired result. DO NOT use shampoos made for humans. They contain harsher detergents, are not pH balanced for pets, and could damage hair or sensitive skin.

Thoroughly soak your pet and apply the shampoo. Again, be systematic, working from neck to tail, and massage the shampoo into the hair and down to the skin. Use a towel saturated with water and shampoo to wash the face, being careful not to get shampoo in the eyes.

Rinse completely, paying particular attention to the groin area, armpits, and between toes. Apply a second application of shampoo if necessary and rinse again. For a soft, manageable, and shiny coat, use a conditioner next, or mix the conditioner with your rinse water.

THREE TIMES A WEEK IS TOOOOO MUCH!
Don't do it more than once a week. The best is every other week or every two weeks. Especially if you live in a cold climate where it snows in the winter. You will dry out their skin if you bathe them too much. Get an oatmeal shampoo. That will reduce skin drying and dander.

I bathe my dogs about every 2 weeks, but I brush there hair about every other day to keep it looking clean and shine and to help it not tangle.
When bathing your dog, use dog shampoo, because human shampoo can dry out there skin. I suggest a dog shampoo that contains oatmeal.

You can bathe your dog once a week, but try using a hypoalergenic shampoo on him or her. It will be very safe and wont dry them out. Im a dog groomer and we have regulars the come in once a week for their bath. Using human shampoo on them isnt good for their skin, there are ingriedients in our shampoo that arent good for them. BUT you can use baby shampoo on them just make sure you rinse rinse rinse no matter what you use. Good luck.

balance out baths with the dry bath wipes and sprays they now offer. ALso, feed him a fish oil supplement to keep his skin from drying out. But you will always have a slight doggy smell.

Use the no-rinse powder dog cleaner for frequent "washings" and then take him to get properly groomed every month or two months. Or you could wash him yourself.

There are different brands out there, but here's one that looked interesting:

I had a poodle and he takes a bath 3 to 4 times a week and brushes his teeth everyday.

Take good care of them!
