I'm with you and I'm a woman - when I worked in offices I got well fed up of doing extra work for colleagues who were off on maternity or off cos their kids were ill or at school nativity sports days/nativity plays etc.

Hey, get your facts straight before you start spouting off nonsense. It really makes you sound like a jackass.

Ever heard of the Medical Act Leave? Get to know it... Men can take off a lot more than 2 weeks! And just because you (including women) don't have to work that does not mean that the taxpayers pay for it! There is a short period of disability in the beginning (6-8 weeks in CA) but that is due to giving birth, not to taking care of a child. After that period, you are on your own. And, besides that, women do pay taxes too!

And why is your opinion SOOOOO important that you should DICTATE such a topic for so many? Get over yourself. Is it "fair" that women have to go through pregnancies and labor to keep the human raise going for men and women and so you can have that job? Looking at the other questions you have asked, you just have a problem with women. Your stereotypes and ignorance just shine through...

Well why don't you give birth then come back and tell women how it really should be. Birth isnt something that you just bounce back from you know.

ADDITION:
Also since when did taxpayers start having to pay for maternity leave? I've never heard of that before. I also agree with the person below...the same women that are giving birth and going on leave are paying taxes too. Also remember that she didn't get pregnant alone. A MAN had something to do with that too!

If the woman was working then she is also a taxpayer so its like they are getting their tax back on maternity leave. Remember, they only get about £80 a week on maternity leave, a lot of people get more than this who have never worked in their lives and I know I would rather my taxes went on maternity leave than spongers.

its government policy... there's legislative statutes for maternity leave for both mothers and fathers... what individual companies or organisations do after that is their own prerogative...

bear in mind though, you might not agree with the system, but the majority of government policy is set by men, since the majority of western governments are predominantly male and were virtually all male when legislation such as the type you don't like were put in place.... they were obviously doing it for a reason and quite possibly had a better understanding of the trials and tribulations of human reproduction process than you do...

lastly, its those children who're paid for now by your taxes whilst their mother has her maternity leave, who'll be paying for your pension and health care when you retire and your body starts to detoriate... would you feel the same way if those children decide to deny you medical care, because 'they're paying for it' when you're 80 and dying? its not called a 'life cycle' for fun, there's a reason behind it and it does all make sense if you think about it a little...

its possibly best if you have a chat with your mother about it and ask for her opinions?

And this question is coming from the guy who says that men shouldn't push prams... I expected nothing more :)

And you wonder why you havent had sucsess in your relationships with that attitude, then again its probabley down to your upbringing.

In regards to this question, i disagree with women taking advantage of maturity leave-(for example, getting a job for only a couple of months with the full intention of having a couple of children and taking full maternity leave again and again, in order to fund the pregnancy, and so taking advantage of the company she is working for.)

But on the other hand, there are few women who do this-and not all women should be branded by the same woman you were working with-and im sure she had her reasons.

Most women are in their chosen employment for a long period of time before they decide to have children-and it wasnt just their choice-but a joint choice between their partner and themselves.

What else are women meant to do-leave work, without any pay and give birth to the child, without any financial support, when they could get full paid maternity leave in return for working for that company for a decent (and lengthy) period of time?

Plus the fact that alot of mothers have no choice but to return to work afterwards, to the same company that issued them maternity leave in the first place-not only out of loyalty, but because they probabley cant afford to just stay at home and have baby after another as you say... We have an epidemic of working mothers (and parents).

Alot of women these days are planning on returning to work anyhow, as they dont wish to be branded with "house wife"-not because there is anything wrong with it-but because of some pig ignorant men (although the minority) miscomprehend "housewife" to mean; "lazy woman at home"... "taking my taxes". Like yourself :)

So Mr ignorance...What are women meant to do? Have children in the workplace? Give birth on the office table? Im sure you'd be complaining then, at having to see the internal workings of a womans vagina...

Or perhaps your just not accustomed to a womans vagina anyway (it wouldnt surprise me...)-as alot of the questions i have seen you ask have been in pure hatred and distaste against women...

The more questions involving your personal hatred of women on here, the more and more likely i am beginning to think that a) either you are obsessed with women or b) Gay.

Women are the ones who PHYSICALLY have the baby. Therefor, their bodies go through physical changes and stresses. They need more time to recouperate, and bond with their baby. Some women have complicated births, and need to take even more time off work.

You have no right to judge a woman for taking time off work for going through pregnancy and the birthing process. If you had any idea what a woman goes through, you wouldn't be asking this question!

Oh Jarvy, what are we to do with you. ;-P

Let me just say this. Its life women have children and you are here as a result of that.

Tax payers money : for all you know you could be paying for war, you could be paying for homeless, people on the dole. Its not actually your money thats paying for it, you cannot actually say that for sure. - i mean come on its not like you hand her a cheque every month (unless of course your the father) ;-)

In case you totally missed it. She pays taxes too.

So look at this way, she's paying taxes to have babies. At least she working and trying her best to give her children the best.

So what if she has time off work to have children, she's not loafing off society she is trying to give back.

She pays taxes just like the rest of us.

the women needs to recover after the birth for 1 thats why you get the 2 weeks to help her out a little and do some quailty bonding then they get the other 50 weeks to look after the baby i think 2 weeks is a little young to go to a childminder and dont think you have it so rough i have a 16 month old and belive me sometimes i think work would be easier babies are hard work you have it easy.

Surly its not just off your own contributions. She has probably made her contributions and so would have her spouse. So why not! Can understand your frustrations but hopefully someday you would reach a stage when you need to call on the same pot to support your spouse and children.

Well think about it. What goes around comes around and I am talking about good and bad here. So chill man and have some compassion.

In my experience, few men want to stay home with the baby for longer than two days, never mind two weeks.
Wait until you have children and you'll see why it's necessary to have a year off.
