My granddaughter is one month old today and I noticed a red "strawberry colored" mark on her chest below the left nipple. When I felt it, there was a "lump" of tissue underneath which didn't feel normal. I know that my daughter is taking her to the doctor next week and am not too concerned, but I worry that this could be a cancerous growth. Am I right?

These strawberry marks are quite common in babies. My baby had a strawberry mark on her eyelid but it went away. Also, my granddaughter has a third breast nipple which is also quite common. It can be taken care of sugically when she is older. Your description sounds exactly like what my granddaughter;s third nipple looks like. Not cancer.

I can't give you an exact answer on this. I do suggest having the doctor check it out. Just so that the mother and yourself know what it is.
