Dvd clone.
It's not free, but has a 14 day free trial, which you can turn back your computer clock after that for a time.
And everyone, backing up a DVD you own is not illegal.
Yes, other uses are.
Personally, I keep copies of DVD's I own on my laptop when I travel so I don't have to take the DVD with me.

This is for only ONE BACKUP copy. Do not bootleg your DVD's under any circumstances. The law allows one good faith back up, so don't abuse this privledge!!!!

A gizmo called GO-DVD by a well-known company called SIMA. The box decodes or whatever, and allows the DVD footage to be recorded. Set up your DVD player with A/V output cables and plug these into GODVD. Then plug the GODVD cables into your DVD Recorder and dub away! If you want to burn the DVD into your PC, then you can do this:

Plug the DVD into GO-DVD and plug GO-DVD into a miniDV camcorder. Plug the firewire or USB output of the camcorder into your PC and open a movie editing app that can capture footage. This will create an AVI file, and it will be very very large in memory usage - several gigs.

Try DVDShrink...it creates an exact 1:1 copy so your backup is just like the original.
