The spirit and the mind are totally different.
The mind can be consciously controlled, aspecially for those practiced in meditation.
The spirit could be considered the same as the soul.

This is a simple illustration - I know some of you will think this is REAL simple - just trying to make something concrete that can be hard to explain. Sort of like a candle (body). You can have a lit candle (live body) or an unlit candle (dead body). The flame is the difference. That is the spirit. When the flame is gone, it is just GONE! It doesn't go anywhere. Ceases to exist. The body is a soul. Genesis 2:7 says that when the breath of life was instilled into Adam (the flame was lit), then Adam "became a living soul". So the soul is the body and the spirit is that spark of life that we, and animals have. It enables us to move and act independently, unlike trees or plants. We have spirit, or that spark of life within our cells, we are a soul. There are also scriptures in the Bible that refer to our dominant attitude as our "spirit". That is another subject and another definition of spirit and is not to be confused with the spark of life.

You are a Spirit, you have a Soul and you Live in a Body.
You, a Spirit (like the Invisible Angels around you) look Just Like your Body.
Your Soul (an Invisible Spiritual Super-Computer) contains your Second Mind, your Will and your Emotions.
Your Body is your EarthSuit, it gives you Authority in the Physical Realm.
You, a Spirit, have a Concious (mind, First Mind---YOU)
Your Soul is your Second Mind, what some call the SubConsious.

Adam himself was the soul and the spirit is the breath like u said. Body and spirit must both be there for life. I like your illustration about electricity, i've seen that used in the Watchtower and Awake articles.Ecclesiastes 3; 19- 21 shows that all humans and animals have spirit and when it goes, they go to the dust. No breath, no life.

No, A Spirit and Soul are not the same. Man is Sprit has a Soul and lives in a body. Your spirit is your real being, and your body is just a container of both the soul and spirit. Yes your right , to put ti that way. The spirit is waht God breathed into Adam, because thats what made him alive. Soul is the mind, whish is right as you said....does that answer your question?...i hope it does...

The soul and spirit are completely different from each other, they are separate. The spirit always goes back to God, until the day of judgment, the spirit is the part that seeks the spiritual, the one which seeks the truth, God.
The soul is our mind, heart and emotions, attitudes, etc. they are separate, is your personality, what identifies you as a person on this earth, your uniqueness.
By separating the should from the spirit, (in the spiritual sense) one can be in such a different realm within the spiritual. we are 3 in one body, soul and spirit, but one person. (hopefully it makes sense)

God gave man a soul. The soul will live in eternity in either the lake of fire (2nd death) or with God in the new heaven. As far as I know, only man was given a soul, not the animals, etc.
The Spirit of God is part of the Trinity. Since man is made in the image of God, we have the capacity to be indewlt by His Spirit. In this way, we can "reflect" the love of God. But, this all requires an action on our part: faith in Christ as our Lord and Saviour.
The Spirit of God is one of love, righteousness, etc. Each of us has a "throne" in our lives that is inhabited by one of three possibilities, God, yourself, or satan. All are mutually exclusive. So a Spirit has qualities, like righteous, or evil, or discerning, etc. The faithful, have the Spirit of God indwelling them, that directs their thoughts and actions, in accordance to the Will of God.
Whoever "sits on your throne" is a matter of your free-choice, and also determines where your soul -- who you are that simply inhabits your physical body at this time -- will spend eternity.
We are part of the great battle between good and evil. Fortunately, we know who the victor will be. Therefore, we all know who should "sit on the throne" of our lives, i.e. God through faith in Christ.

Soul is the seat of your heart, mind, and emotions.
Spirit is the part that will go to heaven (or hell). Spirit is what is in likeness to God.
Soul is the bridge between the body and spirit.
