I have degeneative disc disease (spelling) and doing physical therapy. But am finding out that if I have to bend over to pick something up off of the floor, or pick up dirty clothes, it seems to bother me at the end of the day. My back gets tired and sore. My job I do, involves alot of bending and I'm hoping that I can go back to work soon. But I'm worried about the bending.

There are no actual medications for degenerative disc disease. I was diagnosed about 10 yrs ago. I take pain medication to manage the pain and also neurontin for nerve pain. Hope this helps

VICODIN is the best for pain (bar none). Also known as the emergency room drug because of it's quick pain relief response time. FLEXERIL is a muscle relaxant that also helps but tends to make you a bit drowsy. One thing you might want to consider is Steroid epidural injections done at either a Radiologists or pain clinic. They can give you and epidural of steroid anti-inflammatories and people generally get tremendous relief after a few of the epidurals. One medicine that has not worked for me at all is "Skelaxin". Darvocet helps with pain but not to the extent of the VICODIN.

I should think a doctor would be a better resource for this than Yahoo Answers. It would seem to me that you need more than medicine, perhaps something to brace your back to help relieve tension/stress on the discs and the muscles. The best medicine is the one that helps you, but the problem with that is you haven't told us enough and we are not doctors or pharmacologists here.

I would think a brace type bandage and something like motrin or advil (ibuprophen) would be best.....

I suggest that you see a chiropractor... regularly... to keep you flexible. And you should be taking glucosamine condroitin with MSM... at least 6 per day... available cheapest at Sam's club. That will keep your ligaments in good shape.
