Hi there, I rescued a galah about 3 years ago from the road, She had been struck by a car and was injured.
Since then i have kept her as she wouldn'tve survived back in the wild with the injury to her wing.

The last 4 months she has been plucking her feathers, mainly from her chest and her back, She now has no pink feathers in those areas, they are now white, fine and fluffy.
She lives in the backgarden in a large cage, About 6 ft high and 3 or so metres wide, This is under an apple an apricot tree.

She is fed wild bird seed, grass, bottlebrush & fruit, I have rang a vet to come see her, as it would be too hard to remove her from the cage, This is in about 3 weeks though,

What could be wrong with her, I have heard of the possibility of a disease spread through foot and beak within wildbirds. She has a few times had wild birds in her cage when there was a gap.

How could i treat her?

Thanks in advance.

I don't own a Galah, but did look into getting one. They're a fairly "needy" bird. They need a lot of mental stimulation and interraction. By the sounds of it, that bird may not be getting all the attention it thinks it needs. Feather plucking is a common sympton of this for most "parrot" type birds.

I have had birds for many of years. I do know that if you have a bird in a cage for a long time. They get bored if they have no toys to play with. If you are going to keep it. You need to give it attetion. Cause they are social animals. They need the company. The bird might have mites. There is a spay that you can pick up at most pet stores. But I know if it is lonely and depressed. It will pluck. And will not let them come back in. So it could be diffrent things. But there is some ideas for you. I wish you best of luck. There is also cones you can get for the bird to keep it from plucking more. But you need to pick this up from a vet. They do help.

i just rescued a bird with some of the same problems, he was picking at himself and didn't eat much. The vet told us that he was bored and needed his cage to be rearranged, and maybe a good bath. We also put mite remover in his cage, you can buy that at Pets-Smart. Give your bird lots of toys to play with so that he has something to play with. You can also move his cage to another location he may not like it under the trees. Other than that i would say take him to a vet if the problem gets worse. Good Luck!!

Been a while I had a bird. Sometimes they can get "Mites" and this may cause them to pick themselves. Most pet shops sell this little round can with holes you just hang on the outside of the cage and it get rid of them. A large cage as yours you may want to try a couple at different places, maybe one high close to where the bird perch and one lower.

It is possible the bird is bored and needs some toys to occupy her.
