Motivation and dedication is the key to life and success and happyness. I know i might be going over board in answering your question, but i felt like its important to state this before anything.

Because of lack of motivation, people fail. You asked a very good question and you should be happy that you actually realise that this is a problem, many people do not even realise this and end up giving up (ive consulted and trained people before, tho just to help them, its a hobby, and i dont charge either hehe) .

First question you need to ask yourself, why arent you motivated? ask these questions...

Do you have a written down plan? for eating? for working out? and how your balancing both? (ALtho writting a plan down seems boring, and seems nothing will come of it, TRUST ME i garuantee and challenge anyone to try this and prove me wrong, i changed my life by simply writting plans up, even thou i knew them inside out in my head).

Before you write up a plan for eating and working out. Ask yourself, are you on a write track at all anyway? Rethink it all.
You say you want to lose weight. Are you even on a plan? The diet i reccoment is called "The South Beach Diet". WIth this diet you get results so fast (in a healthy way) in the first 2 weeks, that alone will be GREAT MOTIVATION. Because RESULTS = Motivation!!!! Agree? try www.prevention.com for how the south beach diet works. It is basically cutting out sugar related foods and carbs out for 2 weeks (phase 1). It is possible to loose (visibly) a lot of weight in 2 weeks, and the best thing about this diet is, it aims for HEALTH, and not just weight loss.

So write your plan up. whatever it may be. Put effort into it. Add colours?? Design it on your computer? Add creativity to it. Maybe some inspirational pictures to go with the plan? Print it in colour, and stick it in 2 or 3 places in your house. (or simply your room door or something)
This small change WILL affect you big time. Plans that are written down are more likely to be done than not.

Another thing that helps me, is visualize yourself, how you would feel when you have reached your goal. That amazing feeling?? That confidence you will gain?? Keep that visualization in you, and think of it everytime before you workout and evertime you feel your falling "of the wagon".

One more thing you can do, is ask yourself, why you want to lose weight? Write down the reasons, keep writing for 2 mins straight. Dont just write 1 or 2 reasons, just keep writing as many as possible!! (10-30 is a good start). I say, if a person has enough reasons to do something, HE/SHE WILL DO IT AND ACHIEVE IT! ;)

To summarize, there are only 3 things to increase your motivation. To get on a PLAN that WORKS, and you need to know it WORKS (South beach diet, i garuntee you).
And the second is Designing the plan, and WRITING IT UP. And looking at it everyday.
And the 3rd is to write down the reasons for your goal.

Best of luck with your workout. Remember to balance workouts and eating plans, and consult your doctor before doing any exercise (for example if you have kidney problems you might not be able to go on a certain type of diet, which there will be alternatives).

Think of like this: Let's say u were ship-wrecked on some island alone, your mind-set would be totally different at this point right? U would not have a thing called a 'frig' to open and close when u got bored, on this island it would force u to not eat, if people in this country thought this way, they would not look like they do. Im not putting anybody down, but u have to pay attention to what u eat, and try to stay active. When somebody 'falls off the wagon" as they call it ( wink ) its not that she/he is weak, { they just dont live on that island i was telling you about } Because if they did, food would not be the excuse right? If you took food out of the scenario then you would not fall off any wagon. Anybody can exercise or walk down the block right? But thats not the excuse is it? It's having food available where ever you look, thats the issue. I do this for a living, i motivate people.

A strong support group, even over the internet, is a great way to keep you motivated. I've lost 30 lbs on the Cambridge Diet and am so please with the way I look. Unfortunately, this is the thinnest I've been since I left the Army in 1998 and I'm finding it hard to jump back on the dieting bandwagon. I chose the Cambridge Diet to keep me motivated because of it's fast results and I like the message forums that offer dieting support. Find a good forum or message board that works for you. Even a chat room would be great.

You may have not tried this before but consume whey protien twice a day (milkshake), it makes you feel full. It also helps increase lean muscle mass and as you probably already know increased muscle tone increases your metabolism which increases calories burnt (especially at rest.) Dont be scared of looking like a woman bodybuilder, 1 pound of fat takes up 10 times the space as 1 pound of muscle does. Plus for woman to get large muscles they need male hormone supplements (steriods)
If you are only dieting to lose weight then this can only do so much, i recommend a regular exercise plan including weights routine and a mixed cardio workout. You will see the pounds fall off.
Regular testing will keep you motivated, get a cheap set of body fat moniter scales, you may not thing you are losing fat but with the moniter you will see you are. Measure your waist, upper arms and thighs. Then re-measure every 3 weeks this will give keep you motivated when you realise your goals can be achieved.

Laugh, filth your self off, and both run to meet up with the wagon, or watch it trip off into the sundown even as consuming spoonfuls of Ben & Jerry's Chubby Hubby Ice Cream..

I have found the first thing that has helped me lose weight. I have tried quite a few things before. I started Stack Body Tune Up on July 15, 2006 and I have lost 33.5 pounds.

If I can be of further assistance, let me know.

Eat half of what you normally eat, drink lots of water, and exercise, exercise, exercise. You don't need to take pills, supplements, etc. Just make up your mind to lose weight and do it. You have more power than you realize.
