beware, most of these whitening products damage the enamel (that has the potential to change to yellow) so no enamel, no color but white, but eventually your teeth loose the protection from enamel, I haven't tried it yet though, good luck

All whiting agents are are peroxide and i don't really like doing them or doing anything whitening because it will wear down the enamel on your teeth and make them sensitive. If you must do a whiting mouth wash get Act plus whiting. It the only over the counter fluoride mouthwash. Fluoride strengthens your enamel so if you must whiten back it up with some fluoride. Plus you can get Act in bubblegum flavor and no bad aftertaste! The only way to prevent gingivitis is by brushing and flossing. Gingivitis is the inflamation of the gums. Toughen them up with regular brushing and flossing not bleaching

I don't know about Listerine Whitening but the mouthwash is usually used for gum problems and to keep the mouth and teeth clean. The plain mouthwash is very good. There are many other alternatives to Listerine though, perhaps you could ask your dentist.

You are actually supposed to use this BEFORE you brush. If you look on the bottle it says its a pre-rinse. I haven't tried it but I would think you would need to use it before you brush and then a regular listerine after you brush.

I AM A BIG FAN OF LISTERINE, I HAVE BOTH THE MOUTHWASH AND THE PRE-RINSE. YOU USE THE PRE-RINSE BEFORE YOU BRUSH, NOT AFTER, IT DOES SEEM TO WORK VERY WELL.
TRY IT!

I can't say anything about preventing gingivistis, but I can say that it doesn't help whiten, or at least not any really noticable amount. Try one of Rembrant's whitening systems. Those work pretty well, better then anything else I've tried.

You are talking about the stuff in the opaque white bottle, no?
The nasty taste is from the hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). And it's a pre-rise (as some of the others have said). H2O2 is good at getting in under the gum line and routing out the bacteria with its foaming action, and that's why I use it (even though I dislike the taste).

I don't notice the aftertaste, cause you brush right away. I think it works really good.♥
