Gently pick her up with one hand supporting her chest and upper body and the other under her hind end. Don't stretch her out too much or squish her either. She will let you know what is comfortable to her.

I have a 22 yr old cat and of course pick her up quietly and gently. So I pick her up under her tummy and immediate transfer her back end to my hip with my forearm extended under the rest of her body and my fingers extended under her front legs.

This feels very secure for her as all of her body is supported by me.

One hand just behind the front paws, and the other under the hind legs.. back of the thighs so to speak. Never by the scruff of the neck, they are too heavy for that type of lifiting.

I always pick my older cat [13] up with one hand behind her fronts legs and my other hand in front of her back legs. I know she doesn't like pressure on her belly at all so I go right in front and right behind it.

And gently......... of course!!

Give her lots of extra love in her older years!! It's such a blessing to have them for so long!!

Place you hands underneath her as if your picking up a stack of towels and you don't want to drop them. think of your old cat as if she was a new born baby and handle her with care.
give her all the love you can, let her know how much she is loved.

yup, texanborn said the proper way to do it.
I have old kitties too and hate to have to move them...they feel so frail..but they will let me know if they are uncomfortable when I lift them.
