Since you asked about a strong beer, I would recommend Sierra Nevada Big Foot ale. Its about 9% alcohol, but is excellent tasting as well. Its a seasonable brew and not always available though. Unibroue from Canada also makes some pretty strong, but good tasting beers that are available year round.

Find a local brewpub if you can. Porters are great, especially in the winter. Or a nice old fashioned Scotch Ale...thick, rich, and tasty...yum!

Two Hearted Ale by Bells Brewery. Its close to 9%. but like most answers here, most belguims will do the trick (Just not Stella, its the European Budwiser).

Chimay Grande Reserve, Duvel, La Fin du Monde, and many more. Stick with Belgian ale and you wont be disappointed.

My favourite for a long time now is hop back Summer Lightning. A straw coloured bitter with wonderful summer tang to it and he perfect strength at 5%. It has a long bitter finish that is simply delicious. happy drinking

try stong ales like Old Jacks or any barley wine styles. Belgien beers are really different and usually really strong. Try Duvel it will kick your butt.
