Doesn't that contradict the idea of an afterlife? Does the idea of an afterlife also make a resurrection pointless if we are eternal already? If we have eternal souls, why did jesus die for us?

YIKES! What should I do?

God animates us, we don't animate ourselves

Our earthly bodies will return to dust, but the soul goes on into eternity. The soul goes to a Heavenly Paradise or a place of eternal torment. The choice is entirely up to you.

You have to take a step back and look at the big picture. We are here to be tested, make no mistake about it. To find Jesus in our hearts and find Zion. Of course there is a resurection and Our Bodies return to dust. Our spirits live on, but someday our Spirits and our bodies will reunite.

Afterlife still happens with New bodies. This body will die but Hs saves our memories...only Christians alive will be changed in the twinkling of an eye....soul means flesh...sometimes soul is memories the way We refer to it...but biblically it means flesh..

The greatest truth of all times is that death is certain. We return to dust after death is equally true.Other ideas referred above prtain to the realm of faith. No one can question any one on faith. One must also not apply the rationale of logic strictly in matters of faith. By definition faith is believing in something without asking any questions. Just as rationale and logic help us to get on with life Faith also is required to give us strength in terms of distress and happenings which defy all logic. Hence apply your logic intelligently and do not clash logic with faith to be happy in life and to have the cake and eat it too!

That's our bodies. God didn't create our souls from dust.

The same goes for those firm believers who cry at funerals....what's all that weeping about? isn't their loved (deceased) one going to a better place? Deep down they know there's nothing after we meet the Grim Reaper.
