If the question was a mind bender than there is no place called autstralia. However if there had been a typing mistake than here is the answer.
Australia is situated in the South Pacific Ocean. It is a large Island and combined with New Zealand, and smaller south pacific island nations, forms the Oceania Continent (Wrongfully popular as Continent of Australia). The country of Australia consists of many smaller islands apart from the mainland. These include Tasmania, Christmas Is., Cocos Keeling Island and Norfolk Island etc. Like the United Kingdom, it also have member states. These are New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia & Tasmania. Collectively they form the Commonwealth of Australia, which is the Official name of the country. The Capital of Australia is Canberra. British Monarch (Queen Elizabeth II) is the official head of the Commonwealth of Australia, who appoints a Governor-General to represent her. The Head of the government is Prime Minister.

I presume you mean Australia ?
Well it is a very large Island, right down in the Southern Hemisphere, where lots of people from the NORTHERN Hemisphere have emigrated to over the last 150 years. The indigenous population are called Aborigine. It has a very warm climate. The Wild Life there that are peculiar to that Island i.e. the Koala Bear and kangaroos are just two. Australasia is a whole continent, which apart from Australia includes other islands like New Zea land and Tasmania. It is made up of several States....Canberra is the capital.
To travel to Australia from London by jet would take you about 24 hours.

I cannot believe you are asking this question, but Australia is an island continent (it is a continent itself, not on the continent of oceania as another answer suggested, oceania is simply a region). It is located in the southern hemisphere between the Indian and Pacific Oceans. Its closest neighbour is Papua New Guinea and it has close ties to New Zealand. It has a population of around 25 million people.

OK so I read over all the answers, they are so funny, it is the Australian sense of humour, so don't be offended!!! As many people have mention Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere, I have attached below a world map. Australia is the orange island to the lower right of the screen. I hope this helps. :o)

Dude.......
this annoys the hell outta me.....If you superimpose America over Australia, you will see that the USA is only a little bit bigger. We are like the 5th or 6th biggest country in terms of area, but people all over the world, ESPECIALLY the USA are too ignorant to acknowledge it!
