According to Islam, was Jesus a prophet?

If yes, then why don't Muslims read the Bible, or accept it as the Word of God? If the Bible is a "corrupted" book, but originally was written by God, what does that say about God's ability to preserve His Word? Doesn't the Qu'ran rely on Allah's preserving it through the centuries? And if Jesus was a prophet, you would have to accept either everything He said, or nothing; for either he is a liar, or His Word is true and He is who He said He is: the Son of God. You can't have it both ways, because central to His message is that He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no man may come to the father but by through Him.

And if Jesus, according to Islam, was not considered a prophet, then why does he not meet the 'standards' required of such?

yes Jesus is a Prophet according to the Muslim beliefs. and we do consider the Gospel the word of God. but we don't really use it because we have our own holy book which is the last and final revelation from God.
it clears many points and completes both the Torah and the Gospel.

Jesus (PBUH) is a prophet sent by Allah to his people same like so many before him.

Bible was written long time after he was elevated to sky (Not crucified) and altered by his followers so many times.

Allah did not guarantee to preserve bible as he did for quran because Christianity is a religion came for a certain period same like Judaism and many more before them. Each religion is limited either to a certain time or location until Islam which is coming for all the world until the end of the world.

Muslims believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the word that was revealed to him from above. But that is not the word that has survived and still exists in the Bible today.

The Christian Bibles are translations of the original. And not just that, the translations have been translated and then further translations have been made from those translations. The original text is lost. Hence, the meaning has been twisted and distorted. Where is the actual Aramaic text of the words that Jesus spoke?

I'll give you just one example. The phrase "son of god" was commonly used by the Jews to refer to someone important, someone who was very knowledgeable, pious, and closer to God. A better translation of this phrase would be "Servant of God" or an "Agent of God". The Christians, over the centuries have mistranslated this into an actual "Son of God Almighty". If the Christians are correct, then how come the Jews, who used this phrase as part of their language never translated it this way.

The words have be mistranslated, the original test lost and hence this is not the Bible of Jesus this is just a work of men over the centuries.

Now how do we know that the Quran is the word of God that has been intact for centuries. Here is the answer:

Islam is the only religion that still has the original text (in the old Arabic) that was revealed to Mohammad and then transmitted to his companions. Even God says in the Quran 15:9: “We have, without doubt, sent down the Message (Quran); and We will assuredly guard it (from corruption)”. How has this been possible? First of all, the Quran was revealed to the prophet Mohammed over 23 years by arch angel Gabriel. It was memorized by the Prophet, dictated to scribes, and memorized by several memorizers. Every year, during the month of Ramadan, the entire Quran (whatever had been reveal by that time) was reviewed by the Prophet, and verified by the scribes and the memorizers. Additionally, every year new memorizers were added to the group who had memorized the entire Quran during the year. Once the Quran was complete, the practice of reading the entire Quran in the month of Ramadan continued. Also, the practice of memorizing the entire Quran also continued. After the death of the Prophet, the Quran was compiled into a single book by a committee of the original scribes and memorizers. From that copy other copies were made with the help of the original scribes and memorizers and distributed among world capitals of that time. A few copies have survived to this day. There is one in Turkey and one in Tashkent, to name a few. And by the way, the practice of reading the entire Quran in the month of Ramadan and also memorizing the entire Quran by memorizers still continues. Millions have memorized the entire Quran. Every year, during the month of Ramadan, during prayers all over the world, the Quran is recited in its entirety by memorizers and heard and read by millions. So, even if you burn every copy of the Quran in the world, we can recreate it very quickly. In essence, God has kept his word; he is protecting his Quran (Quran 15:9).

And that is why Islam is the only real monotheist religion. All others may have been true in the beginning, but now have lost their “originality”. People can misinterpret the meaning of the Quran but since we have the original we can always return to the original.

You say that you can't have it both ways. Wrong, in religion you can have it in as many ways as you care to. The bible, the koran, the torah are all the word of some ancient person. In Islam, Jesus (peace be upon him) is a messenger of God or in Arabic, Allah. The Muslims believe that the Torah, Gospels, and Bible are all books of God. However, overtime the books have been misinterpreted and not in its actual form when revealed to his people or to be exact, the Children of Israel. The number of Books/Gospels in the Roman Catholics Bible for instance is different from the King James Version Bible, which is different in the number of Books/Gospels from the Jehovah's Witnesses Bible, which is different in the number of Books/Gospels from the Mormon's Bible, etc... Look at Noble Verse 5:13 from the Noble Quran: "But on account of their breaking their covenant We cursed them (Jews and Christians) and made their hearts hard; they altered the words from their places and they neglected a portion of what they were reminded of; and you shall always discover treachery in them excepting a few of them; so pardon them and turn away; surely Allah loves those who do good (to others)." Israel, when it lost Allah Almighty's grace, began to sin against truth and religion in three ways: (1) they began to misuse Scripture itself, by either taking words out of their right meaning, or applying them to things for which they were never meant; (2) in doing so, they conveniently forgot a part of the Message and purpose of Allah; and (3) they invented new deceits to support the old ones.

I am trying not to hurt or offend you but these facts I found are pretty much true.

The Quran will and will always remain with not a single word misinterpreted, changed or deleted.

Simple answer to your burning question: Where is this bible? If Jesus gave a book to us, we'll read it. This bible Christians read today are from a certain Mr John, a certain Mr Paul, a certain Mr Luke and a certain Mr Mark. And all these people are Tom, Dick and Harrys to us.

The Chirstians changed the book. Look at the Gosepel of Encoh or the Book of Mary or the Infancy Gosepel of Thomas. They and countless other books were taken out of the Christian bible so it is corrupt. Yes Isa or Jesus(pbuh*) was a prophet.
