The world does not understand forgiveness. Forgiveness is not a gift we give or a statment that the wrong commited is suddenly OK. Forgiveness is a release from the bondage of the pain that has been caused to you. To forgive someone releases the forgiver. it says that i will not be controlled by the pain that you have inflected upon me. to withhold forgiveness is to keep inside, the pain that someone else has caused you, and therfore giving that person control over you.
Forgiveness does not let someone off the hook, it just releases you from the pain.
yes, i could forgive them. i would refuse to live with the pain that someone else has caused me.

It is tough being a true Christian isn`t it? When we really look into the mindset of the Amish then we who live outside the Amish community can understand clearer for how and why they believe and have faith the way they do. They do not really have interaction with the world outside their Amish community other than business, nor do they watch TV, go to the movies, listen to the music on the radio, have modern convieniences such as automobiles, electricity, cell phones, and no fast food restaurants, and they all dress the same. They are not bombarded everyday with what we listen too and watch on television and the radio. They read and study their bible, work hard every day. Pray constantly and put their families first. They do not divorce their wives and husbands. They live a very committed life. Even Christians who live outside the Amish community have a very hard time understanding how they could come to forgive, love, and embrace the man`s, who killed their children, family with such love because we do not live the way they do. Still, unfortunately, living apart from the rest of the outside world, an outsider came to their community and committed an unspeakable act of violence against their children. There is no safe place any longer for any of our children. They are truly remarkable people of faith. Watching them has us all wondering the question that you asked.

All things are possible through the Lord. Forgiveness is not a feeling it is a choice. You choose to forgive and then let the Lord help you with the feelings.
What happened is horrible, but we as a community here is Lancaster County are sure that the Lord has a purpose and will use it for good.
God bless

Very good and timely question.
Strictly speaking, as a Christian, there is no question as to forgiveness. Jesus Himself tell us, "For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
(Matthew 6:14-16 (New International Version))
However, this also is part of the Bible that it is nearly impossible for mere humans to obey without divine help. Jesus knows perfectly well that we can't do this without going through a process that deals with our emotions. We are NOT spiritual robots.
If we lost love ones doe to a sudden and unimaginable evil, then we DO need to go through the grief process and part of that process is to be very angry and wanting to rip someone an new orifice. But for those who believe Jesus we have the right and privilege to spiritually climb up on our Father's lap, bury our face in his chest and have a good cry while He holds us in His love.
He also affords us the latitude to tell Him, "Father I know I'm supposed to forgive this person, but I don't have it in me to do it." He knows and He is willing to wait with you and even coax your spirit to the place where you can forgive. The most important thing is that we are perfectly honest with Him.
God knows, God cares.

I'm sure that as the Killer being a Christian, the media would be more emphatic and certainly able to downplay the whole religious background issue.
Of course, if he is a Muslim, the media would make a meal of him and associate his actions with terrorism etc.
Double standard at its best. Send this fella to hell, i say. Let him stew in hell broth.

Yes, I could forgive. It is not for us to judge what horrible things people will do. It is for us to forgive as Jesus did those who stood against him. GOD is so much more than what we are here on earth. You must understand that our lifetime is only a second compared to that in Heaven. We must forgive and love our enemies. Otherwise, it will have been for nothing. GOD bless you.

Yes, people have the right to be forgiven. I would really feel sorry more than anger. Cause he would have to live with the thought of killing inocent children. He is destined to have a sad life, and atleast the children are in heaven.
