Intentinal or accidental. Most people WANT to be responsible but accidents do sometimes happen. Take me for example: we wanted to have 1 litter (NEXT year) so we didn't have our dogs fixed. They are papered pure breds. We were SO careful, she was in diapers, My husband and I slept in seperate room the WHOLE time, one with each dog behind closed doors, and then 2 minutes of mis-communication between my husband and I an BAM!!! I have a 10 month old ready to deliver any second. Am I irresponsible? NO. Our dogs are insured, chipped, registered, fed only the best foods etc. But they are precious animals and things just happen. So why don't allot of you people take these possibilites into consideration when reply to someone's questions instead of jumping on them so quickly? Be helpful in your responses.

People get pretty self righteous when it has never happened to them..As a professional breeder, I have still had a few accidental breedings over the past 38 years..You live and learn..
I sold 2 dogs to a family, that were wonderful dog owners. they sent me pictures, obedience certificates, and were totally committed to their 2 dogs.. However, while they were out for groceries, the male tore the screen off the basement window, somehow got the basement door open so that he could get into the house, (turned the knob) and when family got home, there they were..in the kitchen..too late!
People don't realize that where there is a will, an amorous male will make a way!
It took one accident to teach me that my male could scale one 7 foot fence, and three 6 foot fences to get to my female....He was just 11 months old..
Anyway, when people ask for advice here, each and every one deserve respect, not judgement..

If you can take a moment and read over some of the questions posted saying I wanna bred my dog is now the time to bred my yoky and dotson or what kind of puppies will i gets if i breed my pit and grate dan??? ( All are misspelled on purpose, to show the brains these people have) They want puppies they are not breeding to better the breed or for show, they are thinking how cute the puppies would be and have no clue on what they are actually doing. Yes there are "accidents" and I think everyone can realize that, I however feel that Breeders should be licensed and all dogs, unless they are "show Dogs" should be fixed. I love all my animals, they are brought to the vet for vaccinations and check ups annually. And all have been fixed, because I don't want to have any accidents. With Much respect KG

I understand that accidents happen. But 90% or more of the people on here are simply breeding because "they want to have a litter", or "we want our kids to learn about life". These are the worst most irresponsible reasons out there to breed two dogs together. We have 6-7 million dogs killed each year in this country because there are no homes and now there are 3-10 less homes because somebody was irresponsible or stupid. And what should I say to you? Sure your dogs are papered, well fed (which I give you is an exception to the norm) but are they champions? Is breeding them going to get you a better dog that will also produce a better dog and hopefully take you to Best in Show? It remains my opinion that unless a dog or bitc h is a champion they should not be used for breeding. It may just be a judges opinion but it's something that has been formed from years of breeding and showing dogs. Therefore the Ch. in front of their name means they are a sound animal both in conformation and adhering to the breed standard so their puppies have a better opportunity at being healthy, sound animals and having a higher quality of life because of this.

I'm with chetco on this one, my parents were involved in dog sports, as I have been, my children are involved, and even my grandchildren. In four generations of dog breeding & showing/running it would be silly to think that an accidental breeding or two hasn't taken place. And tell ya what,,, I have an olé boy here that you can LOCK in a kennel run, and he will beat you to the back door of the house every time.
Intact animals will find a way, so the only way is to neuter pets. There are enough really good dogs around to meet the worlds future needs.

BECAUSE THERE ARE SOOOOOOOOOO MANY HOMELESS DOGS OUT THERE!!!!

You seem like you are more responsible than most of the people that people like me like to "jump" on.

I am not against ALL breeding, just when the breeding is done by complete idiots that:

1) Breed because they don't fix their dogs and let 2 intact dogs live together without and pregnancy prevention.

2) Breed just because they can without any care in the world what will happen to those puppies AFTER they are born.

3) Breed because they believe the female dog will be better off.

4) Breed because their dog is "cute".

5) Breed because they want to add seeing puppies being born to their list of life accomplishments.

I could go on and on and on.

I am just trying to do my part to help the millions of homeless pets in this world. I currently volunteer for my local animal shelter. I also volunteer for a dog rescue, I foster homeless dogs and do my best to find a suitable "forever" home for them, I help raise money to support non-profit shelters.

The reason that I "jump" on irresponsible breeders is because EVERY day I see dogs that would make WONDERFUL pets euthanized because there is no room for them. They are put to death because no one wants to love them.

I cannot save them all and it is something that I have to accept, but I can do ALL that I can to try to convince someone to ADOPT and not breed. If I can convince just ONE person to adopt instead of breeding I have done good as I have saved a life, a life of a dog that cannot speak for himself, so I must speak for him.

Based on your description of yourself & your dogs... I would have to say you are an exception.

Read thru some of the inquiries & you will begin to understand.

Of course accidents happen. But what about the accidents that happen because the person neglected to get thier dog fixed or like the idiot who's question was that he simply didn't want to fix his male because he wouldn't want to be fixed himself.

I have experienced a very wide range of animals in my life & I hear exactly what you are saying... most of the folks who are asking these questions need to first hear what the overal problem is with an emphasis on vet care & responsible ownership.

See, it's just that there are soooo many "accidents" out there which happen to irresponsible people who can't take care of those accidents. So then those accidents get taken to shelters, or killed, or abused. When accidents happen to responsible people, most of the time you're able to care for them/find good homes for them. The problem is that if you DO care for/find homes for them, those homes could have gone to the other accidents. If people stop their pets from breeding altogether, and just adopt/rescue from shelters, it saves so many lives.
Bottom line:
It doesn't matter whether you're "responsible" or "irresponsible" for your pet. If you let them breed, and if you don't have them spayed/neutered, then you ARE irresponsible, because, in essence, you are killing other animals.

Unless your planning on breeding for the betterment of the breed and maintaining the standard , planning on showing for conformation, temperament then breeding your health tested(I mean tested to heart, thyroid, joints) dog to another optimal temperament, conformed and health tested dog it is seriously irresponsible to breed ,it is seriously irresponsible to allow accidents to happen too , do u have a clue how many unwanted dogs there are in shelters and dogs being neglected, unloved and then killed? I mean "purebred AKC dog not just mutts, please don't add to the problem again have your dogs spayed and neutered next, I hope your "puppy" survives this litter. and you have learned your lesson.

People ARE too quick to judge in these circumstances (and many more). Some just do not understand all that is involved in breeding or even the pains taken to prevent it. Take it all with a grain of salt, and don't worry about it. These people who pass judgment on others obviously have no experience with the situation they are critiquing. Take care!

Yes, but there are many breeders who just grab two dogs, take the puppies and don't bother with the necessary procedures afterward, such as shots or checking for diseases. Trust me - my mother has a friend who, I'm pretty sure, does just that. So while I'm sure you take good care of your pups, there are so many breeders out there who should be stopped.
