Call the Police Department non-emergency number and ask to speak with the Public Information Officer.

Ask him.

I don't think a police officer (in Santa Clara or even the neighboring cities) will be able to answer that question. Every state has their own sentencing laws and there's never any reason for an officer in one state to know the nuances of sentencing guidelines between two or more states.

Even if you consult with a public relations person at your Santa Clara County DA's Office, it would still be a challenge to find someone to give you an 'informed' answer. Your question references a difference in jail sentences, but it's a very broad question too when you consider how many laws each state has in their respective codes.

Sentencing terms were enacted by the state's legislatures, and for a given crime that may date back several years. You can easily research how one state may differ in upper and lower term limits, but finding someone that knows the original reasoning or the 'why' behind one state enacting a stronger punitive jail term than another state would be quite daunting.

Just an opinion.

Call the Santa Clara Police Department, (409) 615-4890, and ask to speak with their Public Information Officer. They can line up what she needs.

Take her down to the local station, officers love to do that sort of thing

But honeslty the officer may not have a clue, they arrest and patrol, they do not convict or sentence.

Someone in the local court, a court clerk, or a judge would be better for the answer

contact public relations department for the police department in your town .....they will assist you. or you could submit a written interview and ask them to fill it out for you...another idea is to submit a written interview for a sentencing judge.........
