You must of been flying down the road or had two drivers. I drove 2100 miles by myself and it took 2 1/2 days driving 12 hours a day and sleeping at night.

California has five main exit points to the east. Four of them are in the south: Highway 8 close to the Mexican border which leads to Tuscon; Highway 10 which leads to Phoenix; Highway 40 which crosses northern Arizona; and Highway 15 which leads to Las Vegas. The only main exit point in the north is Highway 80 which leads to Reno.
If you exit California from one of the southern points you need about 30-33 hours non-stop to reach Virginia. The way from the northern point takes about 36 hours. If we assume that you need a total of 12 hours of rest and meals, you should be getting from California to Virginia in 42-48 hours. Therefore, you took few hours longer than usually needed.

You done it faster than my parents. We left Norfolk, Va and arrived in Long Beach, Ca in four days. We only drove from dusk to dawn.
