I always see ads for Cruises from $xxx, some really low price, but everytime I go check I can never find those prices. What time of year do those prices take effect? This goes for hotels and airfare too.

Different cruise lines will have different schedules for their prices. However, the prime cruise season (for US customers) is December through April, so prices will be highest then.

Also, remember that the price they show in those ads is just the tip of the iceberg. On the cruise ship, you will be expected to tip virtually everyone on the ship that you come in contact with... and these tips are not small. For a week-long cruise, expect to pay at least 50-percent more for tips and incidentals (such as drinks, photos and trinkets).

I went on one cruise that heavily promoted its "swim with the dolphins" attraction. My wife really looked forward to this but was horrified to find that it cost an extra $125 -- at no point in the advertising or cruise brochure did it say there was an extra fee, especially such a steep one. Even snorkel gear cost $30 per person per day to rent... everything was very expensive, and this was 10 years ago.

Therefore, you should look at the fine print when you look at those cruise ads and prepare to pay much more than that amount.

Perhaps it`s time to book from U.K & then when the U.S.A sees it`s business slipping out of the country maybe it will do something about it!
