While participating in Tea Kwon Do I only felt pain if I over extended a joint or muscle beyond the nomal movement of the joint or over extension of the muscle. Form is very important in Martial Arts as is the same for any other sport. Perfect your form in your mind while healing and snap properly in kicks and punches while practicing (after pain has stopped). In my opinion, you are either over extending your knee or you have a knee disorder either self inflicted or existed prior to this sport that needs to be seen after by a medical sports doctor. By over extending the joint you tear muscle and breake down cartilage in the knee (which cartilage damage is generally irreversable). If the pain is sever and causes problems in geneal day to day walking go see the doc, if not, use the knee(s) gently until your body has time to heal. Use cold compreses to reduce muscle swelling 15 to 20 minutes every few hours and heat to increase circulation. When in doubt see the doc! Just my 2 cents. Best of Success to you.

If karate is done with proper form then it should never damage the knees.
In karate your knees should never be fully locked (none of your joints should actually.)
If you already have knee pains I recommend the following...
walk daily
stretch daily
watch your weight
talk to a doctor
elevate the legs, alternate between heat and cold compresses

Karate causes a lot of pains. Depends what exercises you do to train etc. My son does karate and is going for his blue belt and often aches after a strenuous training session, but it's just the muscles. Ask at the pharmacy for a muscle relaxing lotion.

It may be you overdoing it or you not flexy enoth for the thing you doing. also you may not be giveing your self enouth time between workouts. If the pain is very bad and if it does not get beter go to the doc to see if you are realy hurt.

common injury when you hyper-extend your knee joint while kicking. Control the snap of your kick, kick more slowly to avoid repeated injury.

I guess you're not doing it in the right way. I also do that and I've got a blue belt and there's no problem with me
