I'm part of a family of 5 and ,yes, we do stock up on groceries. It's hard to believe, but we do get too many groceries even with a family of 5. Whenever there's a sale on something, my mom will get literally 50 of them. Just a week ago there was a sale on ravioli and she bought 38 cans. This may be the reason why america's overweight. Other countries like Denmark get a small basket of mostly bread and water to eat. If I would only get small amounts of things then I would probably be 15 pounds thinner.

You have a good point.

We live an hour away from the nearest grocery store. The weather here can be rather nasty so yes, when we go to town, we stock up. We have a vacuum sealer and repackage items into smaller, "user friendly" portions so I wouldn't say that we eat more than we would if we lived closer to a market. In fact, we probably eat less since we never know for sure if we're going to be able to go to town when we plan.

I buy groceries in large quantities because I don't have time to go to the store very often with 9 month old twins. It saves a lot of time, money, and gas by only going once or twice a month. I try to only get healthy foods so we are not always snacking as well.

If you stock up on the RIGHT groceries, you will save money. Don't stock up on sodas or cereal, things like that, since the more you have the more you will consume. DO stock up on sale items such as paper towels, bathroom tissue, good buys on meat that you can freeze, things like that. And always look at expiration dates and make sure not to buy more than you can consume in that amount of time.

Well, I was used to just buying as I needed- I would go to the store and buy the neccessities and then a few extra items that I would cook later on in the week. My boyfriend on the other hand likes to go shoppeing like once everytwo months, no more than once a month so now we stock up on meats(as much as our freezer will hold- he wants us to get a deep freezer) and can and boxed goods so that we do not have to go to the store except for maybe milk and eggs occassionally. He can not stand bare cupboards.

Oh yes...that is so true. It's like if we have too many snack items my son will eat the chips and stuff like that. But if we're low on things, he'll eat carrots, or any raw vegetable, for a snack. So now, I buy the chips or cookies one week, and the next he can snack on vegetables. Or for a few days he can drink soda, but for the rest of the week he has to have juice or Gatorade....ya know? It works out pretty good most of the time....
I do try and have extra food on hand, since I'm the sole bread winner I have to be watch it in case I get sick or something...
Have a nice day ! !

I wish I could stock up. And yes, you're correct. Its a human trait to eat more the more you have on hand. I hate it when we're down to the canned food, I need a Sam's Club membership. I HATE grocery shopping. My kids are really bad when we have a ton of food at home, it lasts maybe 2 days, max.

just buy what you need for two days at a time. i have four boys and i used to stalk up on groceries every month and it seemed like they would just eat cause the food was there not because they were hungry. now i just buy enough for two or three days at a time, i hate going to the grocery store every two to three days but i noticed i am not spending as much as before on groceries

You're right. And grocery retailers know this. You end up buying more and a large amount of food goes off and ends up in the bin.
