Hi you are saying you want a new car, but you won't get a new one for 4K. but there are plenty of descent second hand ones around, make sure u get one with low mileage & make sure it is provable & got full main dealer service history, but as they say buyer beware, it is worth getting an RAC or AA report on the said vehicle, better to lose £50 (i thinks that is what they charge) than to lose 4K on a pile of junk, or one that is gonna end up giving you a load of trouble, or could do, as the previous person has said, main dealers dont often put vehicles on display at that price, it demeans their forecourt, I bought mine off Ebay as it was exactly what i wanted, with all the relevant paperwork & low mileage so DON'T rush out & buy the first one that takes your fancy, remember they are not cheap to repair. & good luck & happy hunting

Peugeot or Citroen are okay.

Not many decent dealerships will put cars on their forecourt at below £4k. Visit a local dealership sales manager , flutter your eyelids, you will get your car.

Make sure that you are talking to the manager and not a salesman.

I have been in the motor trade for a long time, keep your legs crossed and you will get your car.

Vauxhalls are usually good value used, because there are a lot of them sold to fleets, but they aren't as desirable to private buyers as the equivalent Fords, VWs, Hondas or Toyotas.

Try an Astra 1.7 turbodiesel, or a Vectra 2.0 turbodiesel.
