I have a small baby myself and have driven all the cars you are considering except the Astra (usually as hire cars for holidays).
1. Polo is too small, great little car but no way with a small baby.
2. Corolla - not a bad car and apparently incredibly reliable. Having previously owned a celica I can also vouch for Toyota's customer service. Still this is the next smallest of the cars on your list (or certainly feels that way) and for that reason I'd forget it.
3. I personally just don't like the 307 - I know plenty of people that do but I think it is shoddy, feels unrefined and cheap, and quickly shows the miles. With a baby on board I can only imagine the wear and tear will show horribly in the back as they grow older.
4. Just spent two weeks driving a focus estate around Italy, and frankly I was very impressed. Loads of room, pokey if slightly unrefined diesel engine, great handling, and feels extremely well put together. I can now see why this car gets such great reviews. Definitely would be my pick from your list of cars to ferry around a small child.
One you might consider is the Skoda Octavia if you can get past the badge. Built on the golf platform but bigger, with German engineering and high quality finish.

I drive an Astra 1.3TD estate. Advise you not to buy the 1.3TD. Slow to get going around town although fairly economical. Comfortable enough car though.
I don't know your budget and if you are looking for diesel / petrol but sugget sime test drives!

Can only tell you about the 307 - AVOID IT.
Had one for a couple of years, the worst car I've ever driven.
Unreliable, uncomfortable and expensive to run.

If you have never traveled with a baby, think about all the paraphernalia that goes along.
You need room.
Every trip is like moving day.
Consider that you may have two before the car dies.
