Bananas unfortunately have a limited shelf life like all fresh fruits and will turn black in a few days. Eat them fresh.
You see, when they are transported from where they are grown, they are green and ripening up in a dark and cold container, or are frozen in a freezer, so it is not good to refreeze them anymore. Refreezing will turn the skin black but you can still use the fruit inside for banana bread or banana shakes

When I volunteered in the produce department of my local co-op, the produce delivery guy saw me stocking bananas and was horrified.
Apparently, one should avoid handling bananas at all costs -- only carry them by the stem, and store them where they won't get bumped. He said that if you only touch a banana, that is where the brown spot will develop.
The store got a few days of banana deliveries at once, and they were never stored in the walk-in refrigerator, rather they were stored in a dark cupboard.
Hope this helps!

Try putting them in the fridge, I think the coolness causes them to go a little dormant, worth a shot.

I try to keep them away from apples. Apples release a gas called ethelene (sp?) that promotes ripening of the fruit, whether they are apples or bananas or any other fruit.

I always squeeze lemon juice over the pieces. It keeps them from turning brown:)
