my 8 month old son has 3 bottles a day and 2 jars of baby food a day...one jar for breakfast and one for dinner. ...He is awake from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and then 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. and then 5 to 7 p.m. how do i squeeze in them feedings without him throwing up? How do i space them out? He works well on this schedule so please do not tell me to change it. Normally...he takes a bottle at 10 a.m. sometimes 9 a.m. and then eats a jar of baby food cereal at 11 a.m. is that too soon after?

He might work well on a schedule but only if the schedule is working for him and it doesn't sound like it is. I think you're feeding him too much. He's throwing it up because he's so full. Try giving him less in each bottle and giving him maybe 3/4 of the jar of cereal. I'd also take out one of his naps. I mean, from what you're saying he's only awake 6 hours a day. The poor kid is being fed and then put to sleep and then fed and put back to sleep...it's no wonder he's throwing up because he's not getting a chance to work off the cereal in the playpen or something. You say you don't want to change his schedule, but at this point I'd say it's necessary. Good luck and God bless.

If he is 8 months old you can start reducing the bottles down to 1 or 2 a day. That way he will take more food at meal times. Make the bedtime bottle the last to go. I found breakfast at about 8am was good and if they were awake before that they could have thier bottle. Then feed him around 12 - 1pm then again at 4-5pm. That way he will be ready for his bottle about 8 pm in time for bed. Your aim is to have him eating with you so you may have to change his schedule slightly and gradually have him eating with you by the time he is about 12months old.

From my own experience and from pediatricians advice, especially at 8 months is to make sure they take the bottle first and foremost. The actually eating of the food is for practice and to get used to different tastes and textures. With all of my children, there were times when it seemed so hard to get it all in and if I remember correctly, it was about the same age as your son. When he goes to 2 naps a day, which should be soon, it will become easier. Don't fret for now and just do the feedings when he is receptive and it is convenient. If you happen to miss one, just realize that he really is getting calories and nutrition from formula, not from pureed green beans and carrots (those are diet foods for us). Good luck and it will all fall in place very soon.

If he's 8 months old you could start trying to give him some of the food you eat instead of baby food. Sometimes babies like that better bc then they can self feed. put him in his highchair with some cut up pieces of fruit or whatever you want to give him and let him feed himself. I stopped giving my son baby food altogether at 9 months bc he liked "big boy" food better. He's almost a year now and loves feeding himself. That way he stops when he's done and you know he's had enough.

What I want to know is how you get a baby on a schedule??? My son is 4 months old and has had so many different schedules its crazy. I would say just feed him when he is hungry and I know you dont want to change his schedule but sometimes you have to do what is best for him. I know with my son, my schedule revolves around his and like I said is ever changing.

Good luck though!

No that is fine. My sister had the same concern about my neice when she was that young and dr. told her not to worry as long as he is eating and getting full that is all that matters. Though you'll get people that will say keep him on a certain time schedule. He is fine.
