What does she like?
Why not try something such as a grilled Chicken. If you make it in a light glaze and add fresh veggies (as well as the soup, and a sexy chocolate desert) it will be light, simple, taste great, and make her feel really special.

Good for you!

But seriously, that soup is such a heavy soup to begin with why not just buy some mixed greens (sometimes called spring mix) add soem toasted walnuts and dried cranberries and drizzle with GOOD olive oil and salt and pepper. Then get some good crusty frennch bread and some good cheeses such as a chunk of Brie, Gorganzola, anything you like and make a cheese platter, arrange the cheese on a wooden board on a bed of LARGE lettuce leaves, a fancy lettuce, in between the cheese have some grapes, strawberries and figs. Thats very elegant and fun. You can buy some neat cheese spreaders and have 2 of them. Cut the bread into bite size pieces and toast after you brush them with olive oil so you can eat the cheese on the bread. Arrange the bread among the cheeses and fruits or have in a bowl lined with a nice linen napkin.

This dinner can last for a long time, give you time to talk, present your gift, linger over each other. It may lead to feeding each other and having a good time just talking!!! It would be interesting to buy some cheese neither one of you have ever had and doing "taste tests".

Have fun and keep being a great BF.

Here's a good one and reasonably easy but with which she will be impressed. Here goes;

Ingredients

2 chicken breasts
4 slices of streaky bacon (smoked or unsmoked depending on preference)
2 oz feta cheese cut into cubes
a few fresh coriander leaves chopped
paprika
olive oil

Method
Open the chicken breasts and fill with the cubes of feta cheese and chopped coriander leaves and sprinkle generously with paprika.
Stretch the streaky bacon by running the back of a knife along it so that it becomes 1 1/2 times it's original length.
Wrap the bacon around the chicken breasts in a lattice fashion so that it resembles a parcel and the chicken is completely covered.
Fry the parcels in the olive oil on each side, turning once for about three minutes per side.
Place on baking tray in oven at 180 deg C and bake for 20 minutes.

Serve with small boiled new potatoes drizzled in melted butter and green vegetables, peas and green beans.

Delicious. When you cut into the chicken parcels the melted feta cheese runs out and gives a unique flavour. Stuff as much feta into the breasts as you can.

Chicken kiev, you can buy them in the freezer case and they taste just as good as a restrauant. Bake the chicken kiev according to instructions on package. Serve on a bed of wild rice, Uncle Bens box will do. Get a small jar of chicken gravey and before serving pour a small amount across the chicken. Add parsley as a garnish. Looks great and tastes wonderful. For dessert Jello brand has a great cheese cake or find a mix for a chocolate mousse. Union soup are you planning to kiss???? See of the deli at your supermarket has crab spread and put it on Ritz or town house crackers, maybe with some fresh fruit. Good luck and remember a nice meal doesn't have to take all day!!!!!

Hopefully you know what her favorites are and you've cooked for her before. Keep it lite, meat is out, think chicken or fish which is hard to pair with onion soup. How about a breaded chicken cutlet fried lightly over a mushroom rissoto and a mix of steamed veggies. Diced fire roasted red bell peppers are a nice color touch over the chicken. Enjoy (don't forget the chick flick for dessert)

That's soooo sweet! I'd go for a chicken dish or maybe something steakish. Lemon Chicken is always great and simple, and there are a ton of recipes for it. My husband makes me shepherd's pie a lot, and that's simple, with just ground beef, corn and mashed potatoes. Since it's sorta Frenchy with the soup, I'd say maybe a really nice french dip sandwich or something. It really depends on her, but no matter, what, I'm sure she'll love it!

Here is a web site that has a different kind of lasagna recipe. A friend of mine made it for our husbands for one of our dinner parties, we did pair it with the cesar salad that is also there on that page and some warm bread. It was such a great meal and not a usual one that we would have thought to try. Hope you like it.

french onion soup is not a good idea. in fact it is a very bad idea -- specially between girl boy --if "kissing" is involved thereafter --even if it does not, I would not put it on the menu.
advice--prepare 3-4 small salad plates they are called hors d'oevres is she does not like one -- others will match --you are spreading your risk -- for main plate prepare both chicken and meat (in small proportions) shish broiled form OK. they are very tasty. whatever you do --do it in the oven more classy and more tasty too. as for desert -- take some pears soak them in half water sugar syrup and slowly heat them until cooked. then when out flush them with cream. see her reaction. happy birthday -- she will remember -- don't forget the candles...they don't have to match her age...just symbolic. bon appetit.

chicken cordon bleu

thin chicken cutlets
thin slices of ham
slices of swiss cheese
layer the ham and cheese on top of the cutlet and roll up, slide in a toothpick to hold closed
dip into egg wash then into bread crumbs
saute in a tb of olive oil unti browned on both sides, then put cutlets in the oven at 325 to finish cooking through (about 30 min)
remove toothpick before serving
If you like prosciutto you can substitute that for the regular ham

Depends what she likes. If she likes Italian, go for a shrimp scampi or chicken parm. If she doesn't really go for Italian, maybe make roasted chicken, or even a glazed pork roast. . . Depends what you're in the mood for. Best of luck. (Check out the Food Network website, because not only are there tons of recipes, but they are very easy directions to walk through. . .)
