Is Red Bull bad? It contains a higher than normal amount of stimulants, and certainly too much caffeine is pretty bad for you, see the health risks in the source article below.

As regards weight gain, caffeine is probably not the culprit. I imagine it's the sugar in the drink that's contributing to the weight gain, combined with the kind of diet your cousin has. At a guess, I would suspect anyone who binge drinks a liquid stimulant probably doesn't have a generally good balanced diet. Her diet might also be high in other sugars, salt, saturated fats etc. She might also not be having enough fibre and not shifting all her digested food.

If you read the article below, it will help you better understand your cousins potential dependency on caffeine and how you might be able to help. That might be a start.

A 250ml can of Red Bull has LESS caffeine than a regular cup of coffee. So all this hype about it having too much caffeine and that this is bad for your cardiovascular system is ridiculous, unless you are consuming something like 5 cans a day. but consuming anything in excess (even water!) is bad for you so thats no surprise.

The main reason people complain about Red bull is due to the high levels of Taurine. however, a recent study showed that there is no basis of evidence to suggest that Taurine has any negitive effectes on the body.

Red Bull contains masses of caffeine so will only give her temporary highs. If she's taking them for energy boosts I would suggest taking Berocca instead as this is made up of vitamins rather than chemicals.
On another note, Red Bull smells absolutely vile - surely thats a good enough reason for anyone not to drink it?!?!

Red Bull and Rockstar, even the sugar-free stuff, are VERY high in caffeine. Too much caffeine can really screw up your metabolism, and it can be bad for your heart if you have a heart condition or high blood pressure. Even if you don't, over time it can be bad for your heart. Best to avoid those energy drinks whenever possible

Unused energy becomes fat. It's normal. I doubt that anyone would really need rockstar or redbull for their normal life and they taste like crap. No, it's not bad for you, but it's an ENERGY DRINK, think before you eat.
