I am hoping for a little wisdom from those who have been there and done that.
I am now a freshman in college, taking International Relations and Arabic. I am also in the Army ROTC program. One of my main goals is to become an FBI agent.
I am doing ROTC because it pay for school, the army would hopefully be a good experience (especially for the FBI), and partially out of a sense of duty. I will be honest and say I'm not as gung ho as many of my classmates.
The one problem I have with ROTC is the required 4 years of service after college.
This brings up my questions.
First of all, in the FBI would I end up being transferred all over the place, with no real chance to settle down anyway?
Second, would being in the army for those 4 years truly make that much of a difference in my recruitment prospects in the FBI?
Also, any other wisdom you could offer about the Army, FBI, or anything would be much appreciated.

well before i settled down as a police officer i looked into federal service dea instead of fbi but the requirements are the same; you have to have a college degree to go to quantico (federal law enforcement academy) and the army would help even as a city cop i got extra consideration for being ex-military after your rotc and you get your degree you should enter the army as an officer of course and for your four years i would recommend you look into an MP job and try to finish your four years as a CID agent which is the like an MP detective. Also CID agents (or OSI agents in the air force where i served) are already considered federal agents and ranked in the civilian world as the same as an FBI CIA DEA ATF or US MARSHALL agent would be. hope i could help and good luck

If you have an advanced degree in Accounting, or if you obtain your Juris Doctor, go ahead with the Army service first. After all, the more experience you pick up, the better candidate you're going to make. On top of that, I don't think you see many Army Lawyers or Army Accountants in combat situations. As far as, will they move you around? Count on it. You go where they need you the most.

I've read a degree in Psychology or Accounting can open a door to start with. Check their website. There must be more information there as well too.
