If there is a "soul," it is a natural phenomenon for which science as yet has no adequate models. We shouldn't define the "soul"; we should examine empirical data and see where they lead us.

As it happens, the empirical data suggestive of post-mortem existence are rather impressive, if you take time to review the work of scientists who are not cowed by the orthodoxy of their colleagues, and are willing to examine the phenomena objectively. See especially the work of Ian Stevenson at UVA with regard to children with spontaneous past-life recall (and xenoglossy and other extremely weird phenomena).

Most people who accept the existence of a "soul" would say that the body is not really "you"; it is simply clothing which the soul puts on and takes off.

You are close to a simple mystery. Keep going!
Your spirit is separate from your soul. Your spirit is what leaves your body. If you lost all four of your limbs would you feel any smaller? Nope. Ask people who have. And yes yourself leaves when you die. The tricky question is .. Where does yourself go then?

GOD bless you.

Imagine a web of energy and pure light-the Godhead, the source of all life. Imagine sparks of that energy that for a short time choose to experience karma and free will in the material world-human souls. The soul only returns to where it has come from after amusing itself and learning some spiritual knowledge in the charade we call life.

The soul is a combination of Body and Spirit. When the body dies, the spirit leaves the body. At resurrection, the body and spirit are reunited forever and that makes up the soul.
