Wonderful question. This is what i was exactly wondering and asking. In fact I have written to Yahoo answers that they should have a process to check the questions and answere. Simply deleating them citing TOS is not correct. . I give below an example -
1)Question - in category - Health > Diseases & Conditions > Heart Diseases > Question = by gaur hari g -
what is the best medicine today for eschemia?
2)Answer by - aagun_pratik...
CANDIDERMA OINMENT
3) Answer by me - Jayaraman
Ischemia, is a disease connected to heart and blood circulation and it is a very wide subject and can be assessed only on the spot by a cardiologist. There are different drugs available but without seeing the patient it is not advisable to give it. You also should not self medicate. Please do not ask such questions here and you may get wrong advice sometimes.
I request you to tell everything to your cardiologist and act as per his advice. Please excuse me for giving this right advice.
NB: See what I told you is correct. Mr. aagun Pratik has suggested CANDIDERMA OINMENT - what it is? There is not such ointment or no ointment can solve your problem. Mr aagun Pratik is interested in geting his 2 points only and if 2 points are more valuable to him he could have just told you to go to a doctor
instead of playing with the patients like this.

I support Jayaraman on this one. As I said on my previous answer, here on Yahoo Answers we can only give people general advices on health issues, eg healthy diet and excercises. If you are a student and you are asking just for information purposes, then it's ok to ask, but still answers are not guaranteed to be reliable. If you are a sufferer please don't ask questions here on Yahoo Answers. We Yahoo Answerers don't know you and we don't care and there's no way we can be held responsible for the misleading answers to your health-related quiry. Your GP or Cardiologist is the most reliable person.
Take Jayaraman's advice.
This is for your information. Thank you.

Well, I think it is because you have to go through so many entries if you Google a topic that it is almost like asking it here.
If someone who has had the problem can give the name of a good website, like webmd or mayoclinic.com then that is more than they knew.
I think also that some people realize that their doctor they see for 15 minutes at a time cannot know everything.
This place may not be the best to start medical research but it may lead to a good place. That is why I try to give serious answers, as best I can, even though I am not a credentialed anything, just a diabetic with a systemic yeast syndrome - and a few other health problems.

It is like asking a friend. But I agree that sometimes questions are way too serious a problem to trust to laypeople. If I see one that puts me off, I just don't respond. Don't want to steer someone all wrong. But sometimes psych type questions almost demand an answer. Often you may be the only person a depressed person reaches out to for a little help. It's why I don't give smart alec answers to what seem to be real psych questions.

They might need opinions from people who have had similar symptoms, as to what is wrong - and whether a medical professional is necessary. They also may not have money or health insurance, and are hoping to find an alternative to the doctor and prescription drugs.
To those people I say, "Emergency Rooms HAVE TO take and treat you - money or not! Depending upon your income, you may have to make payments back to them in the future - but that is sliding scale."

Who is to say that the medical profession really cures anything? If doctors cured you, they would put themselves out of business. What if someone determined that there was an herbal remedy that would cure cancer, AIDS, warts, athletes foot, flu, common cold? How long do you think he would be allowed to live? There are many natural remedies that cure and prevent illnesses that are not "doctor recommended". Doctors here in the USA and most other places get paid to keep you sick. In China, you pay your doctor only if you're healthy. When you get sick, you stop paying him.

I understand your question, but not everybody tries this as their only resource, alot of us have asked our doctors, nurses, interns, health websites, and they are all confusing or give us inconclusive answers,, and maybe there is someone out there that has gone thru a similar situation before and can give me a better clue as to what i should expect.

because they are looking for fast advice on if they should seak medical attention. Not everyone is medically inclined. Alot of people do not know when medical attention is necessary, so they come here to get advice from others. If you also read the answers, you will see that most people who answer tell the poster to go to the Dr. Most posters aren't really looking for a diagnosis, they are looking for advice on if its serious enought to warrant medical attention.

Either they're idiots or they are really doing research on the state of health education and want to see what the general public thinks they know.
