Inspect the USB connector at both ends. Try a different USB port on your computer. Try it in a different computer.

I would use a USB Flash drive as a transport mechanism, like an old floppy disk. I would not depend on it for long term storage, backup and archive. Always make a CD-R, using Closed Session while burning for that.

It could be the USB port you're connecting it to. Try connecting the flash drive to another USB port.

Worst comes to worst, take the flash drive out and put it into an identical case w/ same power supply.
