Its hard to say without knowing what area of the country you are talking about visiting. This time of year I would suggest the North Carolina mountain areas. With the fall leaves changing right now it is quite beautiful. There are cottages and cabins with wonderful views available for reasonable prices even now. Not to mention the great golf course conditions that the mountain regions enjoy year round. I would recommend the Cashiers area in North Carolina. I visited there last fall and played two amazing golf courses and enjoyed some very fine restaurants in Downtown Cashiers. It is well worth the trip!

I'd recommend Pinehurst in NC. In addition to one of the top 3 courses in the country (Pinehurst #2) there are 7 additional golf courses, top notch tennis facilities, a spa and nine different restaurant choices. They have multiple packages available for different trips.

There are great places all over the US - from Michigan to Florida, to California...if I could choose any place to go vacationing/golfing in the US it would be Hawaii though - I just love it there!

Maybe if you were more specific about budget and area you are willing to go to, more specific answers could come forward. You could always go to the Old Course at St. Andrews in Scotland where it all started too!!!

A place where there aren't a lot of golf courses around that have property and that you can develop. Check out places in Canada that have been ravished by the pine beetle.
