An openly homosexual candidate would never win -- at least not in our current society. Imagine the jokes you'd hear. I'd vote for one, but I know many people who wouldn't, and just for that reason, unfortunately.
Edit: See, the answerer two posts above me shows you what I mean. "Honestly, I don't care how qualified a gay candidate is, I don't want him running MY COUNTRY!!!!" That's the kind of attitude that people have. Sexual orientation actually makes THAT big a difference. It's so, so sad.
Edit #2: Actually, I'll sum up my position on this issue in one sentence: If you're voting for a candidate for ANY reason other than how qualified they are, then you shouldn't be voting in the first place.

I would vote for a gay candidate if he (Or she) were well qualified according to the standards set forth in Scripture, which would include that his agenda was not to put forth laws that support the sin of homosexuality.
There is no PERFECT candidate, "for ALL have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God" ---Romans 3:23
Note: I do not consider the sin of homosexuality any different than the sin of adultery or lying or stealing. Just because someone might be born with an "overwhelming urge" to do such things does not change the fact that they have a choice to satisfy or deny that desire. Sin is sin!
The key in this scenerio is "Most qualified" and that is the best any of us can hope for in a Presidential race. Because as I shared from Romans 3: 23 NO ONE IS PERFECT!

Why single out one particular religious group for a question like this? Is it your belief that only "Christians" have a problem with homosexuals. Their priests are pedophiles. People with no religious guidelines dislike homosexuals. Let it be more of a population generalized question. Personally I would go for the more qualified candidate. Why cut off your nose to spite your face.

Honestly, for me, it depends on how less qualified the other guy is. I might be very tempted to vote according to my religion if the margin of qualification is too slim.
Example, put him up against Bush, and I'll gladly vote for the other guy.

i'm unable to declare what others might do yet I vote based on the themes. i don't evaluate race, gender, faith, or sexuality. If I believe the guy on the themes, i will vote for them.

I would support the candidate that was best qualified in my opinion. Not the one in yours... Jim

I vote on issues, not orientation. If he/she was the best candidate, then they'd get my vote. If we started judging candidates on each of their sins, then none of them (or us) would get elected to anything! Now, if his orientation was to be a neo-Nazi or be in the KKK, then no, I would never vote for him/her.

I would vote for the best qualified candidate that I felt could do the job, regardless of his or her sexual orientation.

Never. And I guarantee that we will never have a gay president, a woman president, or a black president. I am not racist or anything, but I think that people are too set in their ways to make that much of a change.

WHY does sexual orientation matter? Why does race matter? Why does religion matter? Look at the issues and qualifications - that's what will get us good elected officials.
