This sounds a bit obvious, but the difference between smoked and unsmoked is purely in flavour and depends on your preference. If you don't know what the two taste like, then try both.

Smoked bacon usually tastes saltier and will of course taste a bit smokey. How smokey or salty depends on the brand, source etc.

As regards nutrition, you need to consider your whole diet, but for bacon you will get less saturated fat from back bacon than streaky bacon. If you want the 'healthy' option, then cut off the rind (excess fat), which you can't do with streaky bacon. For extra flavour I recommend cooking the bacon with the fat ON, then cutting it off afterwards.

As someone else has already said, you probably don't need to add oil or fat to fry your bacon - it will release its own fats to cook in. Grilling is a healthier option than frying though.

If you're in Europe, Danish bacon is considered good. In North America, as someone else has said Canadian bacon is supposed to be nice. I hope you find some bacon that suits your taste.

Nutritionally, as others have said, back bacon is leaner and the fat/rind can be cut off before or after cooking.
I prefer dry cured bacon because it has not been sat in and absorbed salt water whilst it cures, so there is much less of the "white stuff" released when you cook it.
My personal preference is for smoked, but that's just the one I was fed as a child - some of us like the smoky taste, others don't.

I have always adored bacon especially in a breakfast sandwhich but of late I have found far too much salt water being injected into it during "curing" the producers are cheating us but I think at the moment Sreaky Smoked is the best taste as there is less of that white foamy muck in it.
