in regards to my previous question,
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AigZfc.rZIMiPKHEAmyRb.rsy6IX?qid=20061008114100AAZsBCU

I was honestly surprised at the stupidity of atheists, I also honestly wonder what kind of primitive world they live in, even there beloved science book says the earth revolve around the sun. They really ought to study it more.

so I restate my question to the primitive minded atheists, do you believe the world is flat too?

With all due respect Adam, I believe most of them know that the Earth revolves around the sun.. It is common terminology in English to state that the sun rises, and sets.

If you asked anyone if they ever saw the sun rise they would more than likely answer "yes".

This atheist doesn't believe the World is flat.

Neither does he believe that somehow a scruffy Jewish guy 2,000 years ago was able to turn water into wine unless it was a conjuring trick or that every word in a book written thousands of years ago is true to the last detail, depsite the fact that it has been written and re-written edited and changed numerous times and actually features FOUR different versions of the same person's life story, all of which cannot possibly be true.

I won't go into how by most biblical calculations the Earth is impossibly young - a matter of only a few thousand years and that every iota of evidence points to this planet being billions of years older than that. I won't mention the many inferences in the bible which imply those writing it believed the Earth to be flat (if God was guiding their hand then didn't He know it was round? - what was He thinking of...?). I won't go into these because for most Christians these things are a matter of faith rather than scientific and factual undertanding; faith is what you have when you believe something that cannot be proved to be true.

What this atheist DOES believe is that everyone has the right to have their own faiths and beliefs and that they should be respected for them as much as they should respect other people for their beliefs.

I do not agree with what Christians believe but I would never dream of calling them "primitive minded", "stupid" or mocking their convictions and I understand that to do so is in fact a very "un-Christian" thing to do.

If you truly are a Christian then you do yourself and your faith a great disservice by your crass and anile statements.

1. The world is not flat.

2. You could use a lesson on the difference between "there" and "their".

3. You could also use a lesson on punctuation.

4. Your little game with semantics is on the level of a 10 year old who telephones someone to ask if their (note proper use of their) refrigerator is running and then tells that person to go catch it.

You seem to be a little confused. Is this some kind of trick question or you really that stupid? Just to clear it up, the earth has always revolved around the sun and the earth has always been round.

It is Biblical-literalist Christians who ought to believe the world is flat, since there are literally dozens of references in the Old Testament that clearly reflect a Flat Earth/Geocentric conception of the world.

If you wish to deride atheists, you'll have to do a hell of a lot better than this.

I went out and set my four foot level on the ground and the bubble was right in the middle, so it has to be pretty flat here. I don't think I'm an atheist, not sure what I am, maybe a deist.

That's OK. Don't worry.

Hey, someone sent for the cookie truck. Yeah, some very nice gentlemen dressed in white, yes, like the ice cream vendors, will be knocking on your door soon... don't worry, let them in... you'll recognize them... they're dressed in white, and they have these huge butterfly nets.... yes, that's it, smile... take it easy, take a deep breath now... stay calm, don't get excited... don't worry... yes, continue to behave yourself... eeeeeeeeasy does it...

I as an atheist, do not believe the world is flat.
however, you as a theist, would believe anything told you by your "bible" without proof and without the ability to prove it.

Just like when the catholic church believed earth was the center of the universe and any scientific claims to the contrary resulted in ex-communication. Galileo was ex-communicated and spent the rest of his life under house arrest.
