Sorry J but there is no easy answer for this. And to tell you the truth there is not much you can do.
All of us has been there once and the only thing that help is time.
Wish I could be of more help. Its bean a year and two other men later and I still have him stuck in my head. " In those quiet times IN the middle of the nite"

If it is really bothering you - you may want to consider something to break up those quiet times. Listen to music - put in headphones and go to sleep, so there isn't quiet time. Keep a book by your bed to read when you wake up in the middle of the night, or turn on the TV. Also, keep a journal by your bed - if you wake up and feel sad or lonely, write about it. Write about how you miss her, what you miss. GET IT out of you. Write it down. If you are really struggling, and believe me, I have been there - use your network of friends. Do you have ones that would be there for you if you needed to call at 2AM just to talk? If someone has offered, take them up on it.
You will get past this, it just takes time. I know it's hard, believe me, I have been there...

Why did you break up with her? It sounds like you want her still. If she cheated or lied to you, then the only way to stop thinking of her is to think what she did to you....if she didn't do anything wrong, then you need to ask yourself why you broke it off. Maybe you were scared? Maybe you were wanting someone else? I don't know, but I have found that diverting your attention to something else always helps. Go running. Hang out with friends. That will take your mind off things and help you get through your days. Each day will get better.

Nope... sorry do disappoint you, but you don't. It does however get easier as time goes by. If it was your first love, you will probably never stop thinking of her. But it is better to have loved like that, than to have never loved at all. Just talk to someone, and let your feelings out. Every day is a new day.

She will get out of your head....but only time takes care of that. But...if she really was the love of your life...you will always think of her on and off. Just be glad you had her once. Some never find theres.

Maybe you never will. Theres nothing wrong with thinking about someone in that way after a break up you cant switch off feelings, it will take time to deal with it and get over her.

Give yourself time, you are going through the grieving process.
Remember this is just a season you are going through and this too shall pass...
Be sure to take care of yourself and try to get through each day one day at a time.
peace
