You probably won't get a definitive answer right away, but they'll put in a service report for you, and someone at the Immigration office will look up your case status and get back to you within a certain time frame. Or, you can set up an Infopass appointment at your local immigration office and ask them for your status report once you get your appointment. Don't just show up to the Immigration office and hope to be seen, because they won't see you without an appointment. They're always really backed up. You might be able to find your status on the Immigration website www.uscis.gov if you know your application number, and your A-number also.

Send an email or call the Consultae offcie of the country where you have applied, I would suggest spending time on there website and sending emails to few contacts there would help, send fax and then call and then wait :)
