Even if you don't believe in God, even if the Bible really is just a 'fairy tale', wouldn't it still be a great book to follow morally? I mean it has alot of great teachings in there about life and love and relationships. 'Thou Shall not kill' can just be turned into to murder anyone. capish?

It is a wonderful book to follow when it comes to morals. If more people did has the Bible tells us to do there would not be any war or hate in this world. The Bible tells us "To love one another". That pretty much says it all. The Bible has a lot of good in it.

If one does not believe in God, and thinks the Bible is a fairy tale, they have nothing to lose when they are lost already. Taking one sentence out of this Book, or any other always leads to a distorted conclusion. E.G. Gen. 1-11 does not promote the use of marijuana. It's a Book of and for faith. Faith in God's Only Son on Earth, Jesus Christ.

Although it does have some good moral lessons, you have to sift through a lot of chaff to get to the wheat.

Other parts condone stoning, mass-murder, and condemn non-believers to eternal damnation... doesn't sound like such a great guide to me.

There are even 3 different versions of the ten commandments (the 10th, btw, is "Thou shalt not seethe a kid in it's mother's milk"... not very applicable today.)

Maybe if it was shorter, say, pamphlet sized?

Why does it have to be just the Bible that you recommend following morally? It doesn't have the lock on good moral guidance.

And incidentally, along with some GOOD moral guidance, there is a lot of BAD moral guidance in the Bible. Read Judges 19 lately? What moral message do you want to take from it?

JUDGES 19:22 Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

JUDGES 19:23 And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

JUDGES 19:24 Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

JUDGES 19:25 But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

Moral lesson - it's okay to sacrifice your concubine and offer up your virgin daughter to the mobs...???

Let me get this straight, you think that a book that on one hand says "love thy enemy" and then turns around and says " "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned [to hell]"?
That's a "good" message? That people who aren't even an enemy, are condemed to an eternity in a lake of fire just because they haven't heard the news (yep that's what happens, no excuse for ignorance it seems)
You call that "a great book"?
Personally I call it what it is; outdated and irrelevant bronze-age jewish mythology.

I don't need to read the Bible to know not to kill! And what about the other teachings in the Bible? Slavery, homosexuality.. just to name a few.

Well, it was written by people who lived 2000 years ago, so its morality needs updating.

Besides, i can have morals and love for my Fellow Men without the rest of the Bibles ramblings

I'm mature enough to act morally without a fairytale to guide me.
I believe we should all treat others as we wish to be treated, because doing so would create the society we want to live in. I don't need a book about God to tell me that.

Following your reasoning there are many scared texts that teach a similar notion for human beings. It is not exclusive to the "bible!"
