Should an obese individual be banned from junk food restaraunts?
Should an obese individual be banned from owning TVs
Should an obese individual be carefully restricted in any way since they seem to not be exibiting self control and acting like little children in the matter of their own health?

reprehensible? i wonder what is behind your self rightiousness! I was listening to a radio program about the government legislating such things in the exact way to deal with an epidemic of obesity in Canada - i personally have no acute bias about the subject ..but it made me wonder a little and that is where the question came from.

janie: thank-you for you passionate answer!

your points were carefully read and i am edified by what you expressed about the issue of which i know very little!

And yes i think i am superior to Obese people! AND i also think i am superior to every person on earth! Is it my chief character flaw? Ego? Deep seeded inferiority complex? Beats me!

I find it hard to believe you have no bias due to your question..
There are plenty of nonobese people who are inactive, watch excessive TV, and who eat junk food. This is a fact. Should these people be scrutinized and banned from activities?

For if you don't, you are guilty of inequality under the constitutional law based on a physical features some people do not like.

Being a black person, I should think you should understand this better. You are generalizing and stereotyping and assuming that you are smart enough to know the cause of all obesity and that obese people do, in fact, do these things you mentioned which is definitely not true in many cases.

Studies have proven that most obese people eat no more than normal weight people. You are going on some sensationalized cases and generalizing their behavior to an entire group of people.

How will it be enforced..by surveying these people and recording everything they eat and do...what about the obese who do these things in moderation and less than a thin person? Why are they singled out..it is because of the extreme hatred and pervasive prejudice against fat people.

Studies show that there is often a genetic link to obesity and other theories such as the set point theory show that there are many hypothesises and studies into the cause of obesity. Set point theory points to metabolic disturbances and disorders in how calories are processed...this helps explain why many obese eat no more or even less than average people yet still maintain their obesity.

I personally am obese and watched no TV for 15 years and only averaged 2 hours a week in the last 5 years. I eat almost no junk food having been interested in health food for 28 years and eating out of health food stores and coops since then.

In fact, my allopathic MD is very into alternative health and nutrition. Most of her patients are above the norm in education about nutrition and their eating habits.

She has all patients keep a one month journal of everything they eat..she told me mine was the best diet of all her patients..nutritionally speaking. She was very impressed.

In my opinion America in general would be better off in banning fast food stores and TVs; however, it is not right to select one group of people based on your and other's assumptions as to the lifestyles of obese people because of America's hatred and prejudice for these individuals.

Your question was very offensive in its desire to hurt people in the guise of pretending you care about their well being. Many obese people hate themselves due to society's harsh judgment of them and prejudicial treatment. Your question adds to their self hatred and loathing and causes deep pain.

I personally am not in this group and I very much love myself and accept myself as I am, an obese person with many wonderful gifts and talents. But I do feel sorry for other obese people who you are harming with your superior attitude and name calling when you do NOT know what is causing their particular case of obesity nor do you know their lifestyle habits nor do you mention the average or thin person who has these and worst habits.

I have incredible will power in many aspects of my life. I quit smoking cold turkey 30 years ago, I was faithful 17 years in an extremely lonely marriage despite opportunities to cheat, I reared fabulous children despite living far below poverty level and uninvolved husband, I got a summa c um laud college degree despite having multiple problems going on when pursuing my education of 5 1/2 years of college, I chose to eat healthy before it iwas popular, I gsve birth with no drugs, I never took street drugs ever, I do not drink ,I avoid all OTC and prescription drugs except in extreme cases, I use alternative treatment, I spend frugally, etc. Who are you o assume I have no will power or act like a child based on your outside hyopothesis? I will stack my diet and life against anyone...including you.

This discrimination against fat people is blatant and pervasive and generally against obese women rather than men...often perpetrated by person living an immoral and cruel, self centered life with plenty of skeletons in their own closets.

Putting down others makes them feel superior is common of people who have sins they try to hide from people and who wrestle with self esteem issues.

I watch people in the supermarket--what they purchase-- and it is atrocious by most people of all sizes. If you truly wanted to help, you would work towards getting food manufacturers to produce primarily healthy alternatives and organic products so that the generally health all Americans would improve...and to change their TV programming to valuable life enhancing programs instead of the crap it is used for.

You would work to replace inferior school lunches with health foods and organic foods and get gardens in schools that children learn nutrtion by growing and preparing food. You would work to get pop and junk foods from major corporations banned from schools, and work to fund schools so P.E. is not the first class cut to help youngsters learn good habits.

But you don't do these things that would actually help. Instead you come on here trying to upset people and acting superior. You are part of the problem. Learn to respect boundaries and love people and live by doing what Martin Luther King said in his wisdom....jugding people by the content of their character and not the outside.

Don't you have anything better to do? You are reprehensible.

To answer your question, no, no and no.

Medical plans and other health insurance should cover weight loss plans and give a discount to those who are in the healthy weight range to encourage weight loss for obese individuals.
