I am thinking of getting a tattoo (to match my brother's, who just shipped out to Iraq for a year) but want to have some idea of how much it will cost without having to go into a tattoo shop. It is a one color (black) Punisher skull tattoo.

I think it's great you want to get a tattoo to match your brothers. My brother just got back from his tour in Afganastan. The important thing to remember is that each shop and artist are different. Most places charge about $100 per hour. A good artist should be able to do that tattoo in less than hour. Most places have a minimum charge for work like that ranging from $40 - $60. I hope my answer helps, ink on friend and may god protect your brother.

Depends on where you go and get it done, how large, colors included, and where your getting it at on your body (feet, ribs etc. are harder to tattoo than legs, backs etc.) The shop where I got my first one had a 40 dollar minimum just for opening the needle. I got the "tramp stamp" across the small of my back, its colored, was 120 bucks. my second was only about 1.5X1.5 and it was just the minimum, no black, 3 interlocking circles. was the minimum. My next one (actually going to be 2 done at one time...) is going to be about 120... the first is going to be pretty decent sized, about 3 X 3 or a little bigger, 4 or more colors, but its a memory piece for my dad and my artist likes doing memory pieces so he's cutting me a deal for the two. Just make sure you think about it before you get the tattoo. Are you going to want "hello kitty" on your shoulder or ankle or butt or wherever when you are 40?

Most tattoo shops will not start their gun for less than $50.
But remember, every area is different. What may cost $60 in Green Bay, WI. Can cost $100 in Los Angeles, Ca. Plus.... if you are satisfied with your tattoo, TIP, your artist. Remember, Tattooist are not just doing their job, they put their heart and sole into their art work. No matter how small, or large it is. The best and worst critics, advertise for them, by word of mouth.

I would reccomend going to a tattoo shop. The chance of getting infection, or screwing it up would be so much greater doing it un professionally. I would guess (by the cost of mine) that it would be about 50-75 dollars. My tattoo guy does not charge according to how many colors are in it. Just by size. and Detail. i had my wrist tattooed completely around and 2" wide it cost $75.00 my chest 2" x 3" 50.00 eye brows 150.00 eyeliner 150.00 :) Wendi

You know what it can all depend on your location, and the artist. What might be a 2X2 in Battle Creek, MI (where I am) would not cost the same as one in Miami... I would just call some local shops to get an idea, but always rely on feedbakc from customers! :)

Every shop and every artist are different. You can only find out by asking at the shop you are planning on going to.

this is not the place to be asking this question. you need to ask an artist at a tattoo shop. that's your best bet.

$50-60. Don't pay more than $70, that would be a complete rip off and don't forget to tip your artist.
