Unknown, But God does reveal that he would make known His mysteries to us.

Rev 10:6 and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, WHO CREATED HEAVEN AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE EARTH AND THE THINGS IN IT, AND THE SEA AND THE THINGS IN IT, that there will be delay no longer,
Rev 10:7 but in the days of the voice of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, then the mystery of God is finished, as He preached to His servants the prophets.

"time is a human perception"

That is not true sir. Animals, plants and minerals all experience time. As the stones prove, one does not need a perception of time to experience it.

As to the original question, I'd imagine he was procrastinating until it was time to get on with it. Although apparently there was a big war soon after he created the universe in which a 3rd of all Angels sided with Satan/Lucifer so he must have had company before then.

I suppose God was simply existing. Perhaps He/It was thinking? Speaking with the angels? This is actually a good question, except for the added comments, like self-stimulation.

What ever it was He was doing, I'm sure that it is NONE Of our business. For God is greater that we are, and always will be. You should take note of that fact.

I heard He tried to write a sitcom, but it was harder than it looked so He created a race of people to write them for Him.
