Interviews and the Admission Process

. The interview is just one of many factors in the admission decision. Admission directors usually say that the interview is rarely the deciding one. Still, if a ''BORDERLINE'' student turns out to be impressive, the interviewer has the authority to write a letter in support.

I KNOW WHAT BORDER LINE MEANS(FAILING)DOES IT MEAN WHAT IS SAYS?

If an applicant is right on the borderline betweenacceptance and rejection based on all other criteria, then an impressive interview may move the candidate over the border to acceptance.

I did interviewing for a famous college for many years. The college sent us a thick folder each year reminding us what the interview was for. It was mainly to help the student understand the school, NOT a make-or-break part ofthe application process. Every time we interviewed a student we were allowed to write a report, but the college made it clear to us that they were going to pay more attention to the transcript and the teacher recommendations than they were to us. I guess if we had rated a student really, really low, it would make the reviewers on campus take a second look to be sure that the kid was OK. Or if we rated a kid really, really high it would make them look more closely in that direction. Out of the 100+ kids I interviewed, there were none I ever rated low and only two I rated extra high. Nearly all the kids were good kids who had been pretty well educated and were serious about getting a good education at the next level.

If you have an interview coming up, you should relax, do a little homework about the school, and see the interview as a chance to find out more about some details of the school that you didnt find when you read through their website and viewbook.

So what's your problem? Guess that borderline also means when you are not clear which one to chose between two very similar students. It does not always mean failing! Surely I have never seen it that way. Good luck.
