I know she want to come out because she presses her head against the door and pushes digging at the ground. If she had roller skates on she'd be all over! What do I do? Is this a passing phase? I know it's intinctual to scratch and dig but will she always do this? Anything I can do to prevent it or calm her down? I'd take her out but at the beginning of day 3 with us she is telling us what to do and expects results. She want to be with us constantly, has little interest in playing or even eating unless I feed her by hand. She's adjusted well to her flock family, and loves my boys (ages 20 and 23). I don't want her to develop bad habits, this paper shredding is so far just a major annoyance.

Yes, as you say foraging is normal. Grey's like many other parrots, love to shred paper or cardboard, so make sure she has a good supply of interesting paper.

Start off as you mean to go on, decide when you want her out of the cage and when she needs to be in. When she's in, make sure she has lots to do. Wrap up her favourite treats in paper and watch her have fun trying to get to it. Keep her food bowl well topped up and don't forget calcium supplements which are totally essential for Grey's.
Good luck!
