The designer is the problem solver who works with the client to create the concept and modifies into fruition. His costly educational background is in electrical design or engineering. His goal is to create a solution for his client. He hands the sketches or diagrams to a draftsman to put the ideas onto paper or puter. The draftsman's goal is to transform the notes and digrams into a drawing so the concept can be neatly communicated to others who may not necessarily be in the electrical field. His educational background is in mechanical drawing or drafting. Many draftsmen can work in several different fields like mechanical, structural, and electrical.

First i am not an expert but, i work for a structural engineer. I too am taking a course, but to be a draftsman. The nearest i can figure is the designer is the person who comes up with the concept and layout of the project and the draftsmen puts it to paper. Hope this helps.

For example, think of the designer to be an architect who will help you in constructing your villa. As a designer, he shall present you with various concepts which you select your favorite. Subsequently, he starts detailing the finishings for your villa , eg the flooring , the walling, the ceiling finishes, the elevations, the external landscaping...etc
The involvement of the draftsman/ cad operator is very important as all details for your plans, sections and elevations which are earlier created by the architect is actually developed by the draftsman. In BREIF the engineers language is drawings which are first initiated as ideas by the architect and subsequently developed by the draftsman.

Intelligent design is a tool used to attempt to identify things that are beyond the scope of formation by natural processes and owe their origin to an intelligent source of design. E.g. the SETI project is attempting to identify radio signals that could not have a natural origin and therefore are likely to have originated from an extra terrestrial intelligence. Hence the tool of ID can be used in various fields of science and is not tied to Evolutionism, Creationism or any other ism. ID stops at the identification of intelligent design content and does not identify the designer. If you find a watch on the heath you could fairly conclude that it was made by a watchmaker but not who the watchmaker was. ID is not exclusively a Christian Creationist methodology as some people claim, nor is it Creationism in disguise. After all, would you say the SETI team are Christian Creationists? Creationists believe that the universe was created by a divine being rather than by natural processes. However even naturalism has to start with a supernatural beginning, e.g. the singularity before the big bang has no reasonable naturalistic explanation. There are old earth and young earth creationists, and many old earth creationists also believe in evolution. Since the theory of evolution claims that all biological complexity has a natural origin ID is often used to identify candidate examples that would refute this theory. That has only answered your first question but I will leave it there. @nosson. Creationism is NOT the idea that god created each species separately. It is the idea that God created each kind separately (among other things). This is based on the bible. Our taxonomic division of species does not correspond to the created kind. Even Linnaeus recognized this later in life, although earlier in life he believed in fixity of species. This proposition appears to be consistent with the evidence.

A designer, usually an engineer, is a person who conceptualizes the solution/design and provides sketches, ideas, etal
A draftsman translates these and puts them into simple, decipherable engineering drawings which can be read and understood by the field team

A designer is responsible for implementing engineering designs and details. Also, a designer is responsible for design intent. He or she reports to principal engineers and is not necessarily a degreed or an elite engineer.
A drafter is responsible for documentation. A good drafter is typically knowledgeable in how the design is constructed, fabricated, or machined, and therefore knows how to best communicate a design on paper.
