do not give homey to either - may contain botulism that their immune systems cannot tolerate.

Try sitting with them in a steamy bathroom.

For any child under six, the recommendations are that actual medications do not do anything to help them, so there is no point in giving it to them. Therefore the only cough mixtures you'll find out for under sixs is something soothing, like gylcrol, so it hasn't got any medication in it. They do all however have the 3 month plus guideline on, which is why it might be a good idea no to give it to her. All it does is hydrate the throat, stop it from getting sore so its not too bad if you don't give it to her as long as you keep her hydrated in other ways, i.e. milk. I don't think there's much the doctor can give. Like the other posters have said, vapouriser in her room to help her breathe is the best option.

No medicine...homemade or otherwise.

We had a lot of success steaming up our bathroom by running the shower really hot, turning off the shower, then sitting in the closed room for 15 minutes with the baby.

Baby saline nose drops.

Keep a humidifier in the babys room.

Humid air can make life a lot easier for babies with colds.

What does your doc say? That is most important!

according to my peidiatrician and my son's nicu doctor, after the age of one, it is safe to give a child honey. read the back of the bottle. this is what my grandma does. it always worked.

a 1/2 cup of honey
1 1/2 cup of lemon juice
a teaspoon of baking soda

for a child that age, i'd suggest only 1/4 teaspoon, and i would check with your doctor first, just in case.

let him watch you make it. the baking soda interacts with the lemon juice, which is like a science experiment so he will want to try it. it does taste good, which was a requirement for me as a child, and it works. if you want to go with something store bought, methesulma children's cough syrup is awesome and it tastes good. lets face it, if you can't get it down, it does you no good.

No cough suppressant is necessary if cough is productive and moving mucus. Vapo-rub and a cold water humidifier will help them sleep. Long warm baths in steamy room will sooth their throats as well. Good luck!

1 tablespoon vinegar
1 tablespoon cooking oil
1/2 teaspoon sugar (to take away the bitter taste)
